MARIETTA, Ga. — The Thomas Night Hawks built early momentum behind a scorching performance from Armani Thomas, but a strong second‑half push by Life University handed Thomas a 71–66 road loss Thursday night in SSAC action.
Thomas stormed out to a 39–32 halftime lead, thanks largely to Thomas' shooting barrage. The senior guard was nearly unstoppable from long range, hitting 7 of 8 from three on his way to a game‑high and TU career high 21 points. Fifteen of those came before the break.
The Night Hawks held their largest lead seven points midway through the first half and again early in the second, but Life slowly tightened the screws defensively. The Running Eagles outscored Thomas 39–27 after halftime, capitalizing on turnovers and key possessions in the paint.
Life's Maurice Wright fueled the comeback with 23 points, seven rebounds, and four steals, while guard Calvin Payton added 12 points on four made threes.
Thomas received balanced production around Thomas' big night. Michael Smith tallied 11 points and six rebounds, Jonathan Goldson posted 11 points and three assists, and Shane Payne filled the stat sheet with seven rebounds, five assists, and two steals. The Night Hawks' bench made a major impact, combining for 40 points, including strong minutes from Nhine Wills and Aaron Nomel.
Despite shooting 44.8% from the field and 36.4% from three, the Night Hawks' 14 turnovers proved costly, as Life converted them into 17 points. The Running Eagles also held a slight edge inside, winning the battle 38–34 in the paint.
Thomas made one final push in the closing seconds, including another deep three from Armani Thomas with eight seconds left but Life iced the game at the free‑throw line.
The Night Hawks will wrap up their regular season this Saturday at 2 p.m. with a road matchup against Dalton State, marking the final game before the SSAC Tournament.
