THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks notched their 12th win of the season with a dominant win over the Point Skyhawks on Thursday night in the TU Gym.
LaTarius Montgomery started things off for Thomas with a three, then after a layup from Point, Madison Sheppard hit one off a pass from Montgomery.
Next, Zyi'Kiera King joined in the action with a triple and later Destiny Hill knocked down a three to put the Night Hawks on a 12-2 run.
A layup and a pair of free throws cut the lead to six, but a pair of free throws by Ameari Logan brought the lead back to eight. Before the end of the period, Logan knocked down a layup to hold a 16-9 lead going to the second.
The two teams traded buckets to begin the quarter, but then back-to-back threes from King and Elicia Smith pushed the lead to double digits. The Night Hawks kept the pressure on as Hill hit a jumper, and then King made another triple, increasing the margin to 18.
Next, a layup by Montgomery made it a 20-point game as the Skyhawks struggled to hold on. Then Kennedy Collins hit a three to give Thomas their largest lead of the game with 2:37 left in the half.
With 37 seconds to go, Aaliyah Ringold found Collins alone at the elbow for another triple to go into the locker room with a 22-point lead.
In the third quarter, Point picked up the pace, going on a quick 6-0 run to start the half. The momentum continued to build as a three from the Skyhawks cut the lead to 13, then a pair of free throws brought it to 11.
Tieraney Bolton made a couple of free throws to even things out. But then a Point three made it a 10-point game.
However, Logan did hit a layup and two free throws to push the lead to 14, and later KeNiyah White made a three to make it a 17-point game going into the final quarter.
The fourth was a battle in the early goings as the Skyhawks tried to cut into the lead. But King took over as the freshman scored 10 of Thomas' first 12 points in the period. Sheppard also knocked down a three to give the Night Hawks a 26-point advantage.
Thomas maintained the lead and coasted to a 71-54 victory over the Skyhawks.
King posted a season-high 21 points, shooting 8-11 from the field and 5-7 from distance. Additionally, she had five rebounds and a pair of assists. Hill finished with 10 points, five boards, four assists and a steal. Montgomery also had seven points, 11 rebounds, an assist, steal and a block. Lastly, Ringold finished with two points, five steals and five assists.
The Night Hawks will play their final home game of the season on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 12:00 p.m against Brewton-Parker.
