THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks ended their home schedule with a crucial 61-54 win over the Brewton-Parker Lady Barons on Saturday afternoon.
Thomas found themselves down early thanks to a three and a layup from the Lady Barons. But, a layup from
Ameari Logan and an and-one from
LaTarius Montgomery gave the Night Hawks the lead.
Brewton-Parker later tied the game on a free throw to make it nine-all. Until
Zyi'Kiera King knocked down a three put Thomas back ahead. A jumper cut the lead to one before the period came to an end.
The Lady Barons hit a free throw to bring the game even again, but as if on cue, King hit another three to put the Night Hawks back ahead. King continued her hot shooting as she drained her third triple of the half to extend the lead to five, but she was not done yet, knocking down another three to go up eight with 7:04 left.
Later,
Kennedy Collins added to the run with a layup to go up by double-digits in the period. Brewton-Parker tried to cut into the lead, but four free throws from
Destiny Hill and three from
Aaliyah Ringold sent Thomas into the half with a 30-18 lead.
After both teams returned from the break, the Lady Barons brought the lead back to single digits but then
Madison Sheppard knocked down a three to push the advantage back to 12. Later in the period, a triple from Brewton-Parker brought it down eight, and then the lead was cut to six on another three.
The Lady Barons continued their run with a three-ball to make it a one-possession game. However, a triple from Ringold gave the Night Hawks some more breathing room, unfortunately, a quick 5-0 run cut the lead to one going into the fourth.
Thomas came out for the final quarter on fire, ripping off a 12-0 run to hold a 13-point lead with 4:30 to go. However, Brewton-Parker answered with a 13-0 run, tying the game with 2:00 minutes to go.
Needing a basket, Logan drove through the lane and drew the foul. She then went perfect on her trip to the line to make it a one-possession game. The Tallahassee native then hit a layup through contact for an and-one with a 1:15 left.
The Lady Barons made a layup after a timeout to make it a three-point game, but Montgomery went to the line and made a pair of free throws to increase the lead to five. Brewton-Parker tried to answer but they could not get a shot to fall, forcing them to foul and sending Montgomery to the free throw line where she made both to ice the game.
King continued her hot shooting, dropping 16 points, going 4-6 from deep with a rebound, an assist and a steal.
Hill was the second leading scorer with 15 points along with a pair of rebounds, assists and steals. Following her in scoring was Montgomery who notched her 15
th double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She also had a steal and a block.
The win marked the final win at home for Ringold, Collins, Hill, Montgomery and
Tieraney Bolton who were all honored following the game for Senior Day.
The Night Hawks will return to the court on Thursday, Feb.19 for a road matchup against Life University at 5:30 p.m.
