THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas University Night Hawks men's soccer program rattled off six unanswered goals against the Brewton Parker Christian University Barons to properly send off the nine members of the senior class on Monday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex by a score of 6-1.
Down 1-0 on their Senior Day,
Billy Jeffery's boys leveled the match in the 32nd minute when
Jose Bonilla Ortiz dribbled down low to give way to
Ethan Moore near the goal line. The senior sliced through and found his tenth goal of the season.Â
Tied at the half, the intensity increased in the second half, with the Night Hawks going from four first-half shots to a dozen in the latter period.Â
Bonilla Ortiz was rewarded in the 58th minute, when
Edward Sack passed through and set up the freshman to drill it home for his second score of the year. Up 2-1. TU wouldn't look back with an unrelenting approach.Â
The captain,
Jake Wright, took over once he checked into the match; notching a hat trick within six minutes of action. In the 65th minute, he broke away for a score before receiving a ball from
Will Nye beyond the 67th tick. In the 70th,
Edward Sack and Wright had another run in front of the back line of the Barons. The junior fed the man from Leeds, securing the hat trick and sending his season total to seven.
Not happy with a 5-1 lead, Moore sought a brace when
Ryan Donnelly played a ball into the area in the 82nd minute, locking in number eleven on the year to make it a five-goal lead.Â
Damien Fortin (4-7) made five saves during the match for TU.
"We had to put it together in the final third, and clearly stuff was clicking," said Jeffery. "The important thing is carrying it over to the next handful of games."
Thomas would celebrate the 2026 class postgame with honors to
Francisco Visiedo Pereira,
Fabian Cancio,
Gavyn Whitney,
Luke Guerrier,
Elia Casali, Donnelly, Nye, Moore, and Wright.
Reflecting on the nine men, Jeffery remarked "Whether it was four years or just a semester, they've been great and have bought in. Every senior class is tough to replace, but this group especially...I can't thank them enough," he added.Â
Thomas (6-9. 2-7 SSAC) stays alive in conference action with two matches remaining against Point and Andrew. On Saturday, Oct. 17, the team will take a break from conference play to travel to Lawrenceville and challenge the Georgia Gwinnett College Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m.
