THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Thomas University women's soccer program returned to the TU Soccer Complex on Thursday afternoon and kept a high-flying #16 University of Tennessee Southern Firehawks team to just one goal, but were kept off the scoreboard, falling 1-0 in conference action.
The Night Hawks (3-4-2, 2-3-1 SSAC) found themselves facing early pressure, with three of the Firehawks' eventual dozen shots occurring in the first 15 minutes. Five minutes later, UT Southern swung it into the area and headed it back to an open Osiris Rodriguez, connecting for her fifth goal of the year.
Miasandra Mauro and
Matthildur Traustadottir both took shots down the stretch run of the first half, but the Firehawks' goalkeeper saved each try.Â
While the Firehawks controlled the first half, the Night Hawks became more aggressive after the intermission with more attempts from Mauro and Traustadottir.
Jordyn Keene's boot was saved by a diving keeper in the second half as well.Â
Chantelle Thomson (3-4-2) made four saves on the match, but the strike from Rodriguez proved to be the game-winner for the Firehawks.
Thomas continues home action with a quick turnaround; the Blue Mountain Christian University Toppers come to the TU Soccer Complex on Saturday, Oct. 3Â at 11:00 a.m. ET. Thomas is undefeated in three matches against BMCU.Â
