Thomas falls on Opening Day to No. 8 Webber

BABSON PARK, Fla. - Thomas dropped both games of the twin bill on Opening Day, Friday against No. 8 Webber International.

Thomas 4, No. 8 Webber 10
The Warriors opened the scoring in the bottom of the first frame after Ty Matthews reached on a hit by pitch and Jalen Martinez hit a 2-RBI homer to give Webber a 2-0 advantage.

Thomas notched their first mark on the scoreboard after a base on balls saw Gabe Tafelski reach. The senior swiped second and advanced to third on a passed ball. Tyler Marczak got the first Night Hawk RBI of the season after he hit a ground out to third base side that saw Tafelski reach home to cut the Warrior lead to one.

In the bottom of the second Webber added another run to their advantage after Tugg Hollandsworth singled and stole second and Keegan Martin hit an RBI double to drive in Hollandsworth to bring the score to 3-1 Warriors.
The bottom of the third saw Webber pour it on heavy after the Warriors scored five runs on three singles to blow the game wide open.

Thomas tried to steady the ship after a pitching change in the fifth but could not completely string together the offense.

Carson Thomas capitalized on a miscue from the shortstop to reach first in the top of the seventh frame. Seth Waltimyer reached on a consecutive miscue from short while Jackson Thomas hit a single up the middle to drive his brother home to cut the deficit to four runs.

Webber added three more insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth with a trio of RBI singles to bring the score to 10-3.
Max Pickert hit an RBI single to cap off the Night Hawk scoring in the final frame of the game.

Cairo native Christian Maige threw four innings of work, struck out three, and walked one batter on 42 pitches and faced one above the minimum number of batters to highlight the bullpen performance.

Pickert went 2 for 5 with an RBI. Carson Thomas hit 1 for 3 with an RBI, a walk and a run scored. Jackson Thomas went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a walk.

Thomas 3, No. 8 Webber 4
The Night Hawks preserved a shutout until the bottom seventh inning. Three free passes loaded the bases with no outs and created prime opportunity for the Warriors.
An RBI single followed by a hit by pitch scored two runs. On the next play the Night Hawks managed a double play but not without allowing the runner on third to score and tie the game.
What was originally a game two scheduled for seven innings turned into an eleven inning pitchers duel.

Consecutive plays on offense were hard to come by after escaping a bases loaded jam in the ninth unscathed the Night Hawks were unable to repeat their performance in the eleventh and allowed the winning run on a walk.
Jaylen Roque went 3 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored in his first collegiate start. Seth Waltimyer went 2 for 4 with a walk and two stolen bases. Noah Smith hit a homer in his first collegiate at bat for 2 RBIs going 1 for 5 on the day with a run scored.

Ian Vickers had a phenomenal outing in his first start as a Night Hawk having allowed only one hit and four walks. He struck out eight batters in five innings of work with 96 pitches.

The Night Hawks return to action for game three against the Warriors at 12 PM EST  looking to avoid a sweep.
