THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Night Hawks completed the series sweep on Saturday evening after taking the first game 9-3 and the second game 14-11.
Thomas 9, Brewton-Parker 3
The Night Hawks fell behind early in the game after a Justin Lara triple opened the second frame for the Barons. Elijah Baptist ripped a two out RBI single to left center to plate Lara and give the Barons a 1-0 lead. Thomas opened the bottom of the frame with an
Aidan Reyes walk.
Seth Waltimyer followed with a single and advanced Reyes to third. Mike Sowers tied the game with an RBI single of his own to bring the score equal. Cam Rosario followed suit with another RBI single to give the Night Hawks the lead for good.
The Night Hawks added to the scoring in the third with help from small ball and a defensive miscue in center to score six runs to cut the advantage to 8-1. The Barons fought back in the top the fifth frame and scored a pair runs to cut the lead to 8-3. Thomas added a run in the top of the sixth courtesy of another Waltimyer single to bring the final score to 9-3.
AJ Wydra threw a complete game effort only allowing three runs and three free passes while striking out five to earn the win.
Thomas 14, Brewton-Parker 11
The Barons similarly took the lead in the top of the second after a trio of singles and a stolen base to bring the game to 1-0 Baron advantage. Thomas responded back in the botton of the inning after Dylan Speakman gave
JT Whatley a free pass via hit-by-pitch.
Brayden Lawhon reached on a base on balls and Waltimyer reached on a sacrifice bunt attempt that allowed him to reach from a defensive attempt to execute a force play on the lead runner. Sowers then followed up with a single up the middle to plate Whatley and Lawhon and capitalized on a bobble by the centerfielder to put two Night Hawks into scoring position.
Trey Larkin completed the scoring in the second with a groundout straight to first that allowed Waltimyer to score to bring the Night Hawks to a 3-1 advantage.
Thomas continued their offensive efforts in the third with a pair of singles followed by a stolen base to put two into scoring position with no outs. Waltimyer reached on a walk to load the bases. Larkin was hit by pitch to score the first run of the frame Cam Tyson his a single to the left side to clear the bases and bring the Night Hawks to a 6-1 lead. Brewton Parker tacked on a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the Night Hawk advantage. Thomas tacked on to their lead with a two RBI single courtesy of
Elias Garcia. Brewton Parker began to chip away in the sixth by adding two more runs to their own cause.
The Night Hawks seemed to pull away in the bottom the sixth by scoring three more runs and brought their advantage to 11-4. The Barons added in another run of their own in the seventh and the Night Hawks answered with the same to bring the score to 12-5.
Brewton-Parker had an explosive eighth inning as they scored six runs to cut their deficit to one run after taking advantage of free passes, small ball and aggressive baserunning. Thomas responded by adding on three runs and closing out the contest with a strong defensive effort.
Dustin Letchworth earned the win after working two and a third. Letchworth allowed four hits, two earned runs and struck out three while only issuing a lone free pass.
Brandon Steele earned the save after working one and two thirds and allowed three hits, one walk and struck out two.
Thomas returns to action for another SSAC series as they travel to Hattiesburg, Miss. to face No. 8 William Carey in a conference series on Friday April 4
th with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
