JACKSONVILLE, Fla.— The Thomas Night Hawks struggled to generate offense in a loss to NCAA D-II Edward Waters Tigers on Tuesday evening. The Night Hawks had trouble generating hits in the defeat, while Edward Waters capitalized on early scoring opportunities to take control of the game.
The Tigers started quick, scoring four runs in the first inning and adding another in the second. Thomas starter Matthew Demetree lasted just two innings, allowing five runs on two hits and five walks. The Night Hawks' bullpen struggled to contain the Tigers, surrendering an additional five runs across the final four innings.
Torry Jones powered Edward Waters' offense, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. The Tigers totaled seven hits, including four doubles, and drew seven walks.
The lone hit for Thomas came from Hunter Kern, who singled in the third inning. Edward Waters' pitching staff, led by starter Elvin Polanco, allowed only one hit in the win, striking out five and walking just one across seven innings.
Thomas looks to rebound in its next matchup as return home to face Brewton-Parker for a SSAC series starting Friday, March 28th at 6:00pm
