MOBILE, Ala. – The Night Hawks went on the road and took on the Mobile Rams in a SSAC Conference game on Tuesday Night.
The game was a back-and-forth affair early on as
LaTarius Montgomery got Thomas the lead with a layup at the 7:29 mark in the first quarter. She along with
Jasmyn Studamire and
Destiny Hill kept the scoring going as they carried a six-point lead into end of the quarter.
Studamire started off the second quarter with a three to bring the lead to nine, however, 12-1 run for the Rams gave them the lead with 4:01 to go in the half. Thomas did retake the lead with about two minutes to go, but Mobile once again grabbed the lead and took a six-point lead into the locker room.
After the break, the Rams brought their lead to double-digits in the beginning of the half, but Thomas continued to keep the lead within reach as they brought it down to as much as six with a minute to go, however, Mobile held the lead going into the fourth.
The fourth started out rough for the Night Hawks as they fell behind by 14 a minute in. However, true to how this team has persevered through this season, they began to mount a comeback, Studamire kicked things off with a midrange jumper and then made her way to the line, going one of two. Montgomery added onto to the scoring with a layup of her own before Studamire cut the lead to single digits with a layup at the 5:11 mark.
Kennedy Collins brought the deficit down even further with a three, putting Thomas within five of the lead. The Rams knocked down a couple of buckets to bring the margin to nine, but the Night Hawks refused to quit as Hill got a steal and a layup to go down by five with 39 seconds to go, Hill got fouled and sunk both her free throws to bring it to four, however, a foul gave the Rams the ball back to ice the game.
Studamire had her best game of the season in the effort, getting a double-double while recording a season-high 21 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Montgomery finished with 19 points, 13 rebounds, an assist and four blocks. Finally, Hill ended with 16 points, going a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe with six boards, an assist and two steals.
The Night Hawks will be back in action on Saturday, Feburary 8
th at 12:00PM for a rematch against Brewton-Parker on the road.
