MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Thomas Night Hawks went on the road for a SSAC matchup against the Brewton-Parker Lady Barons on Saturday afternoon.
Thomas started out slow before a three from
Kennedy Collins jump started the offense as they went on a 7-2 run as the first quarter came to an end. The second saw the Lady Barons tie the game after back-to-back threes to begin the quarter, Collins then responded with a three of her own to take the lead back with 8:17 to go.
Aaliyah Ringold knocked down a three of her own to extend the lead to five before Brewton-Parker cut the lead back to two. The two teams traded makes until the end of the half where the Night Hawks held a five-point lead.
The second half started as the first half ended as both teams went bucket for bucket, however, The Lady Barons took the lead following three makes from the charity stripe. Ringold hit a jumper to give the lead back to the Night Hawks with 5:38 to go in the quarter.
LaTarius Montgomery added on with a layup and then Ringold made a three to bring the lead to six. The buckets by Ringold and Montgomery sparked an 14-2 run capped off by another three from Collins to give Thomas an 11-point lead going into the final quarter.
Brewton-Parker came out in the fourth firing, going on a 10-0 run to bring the lead down to one, Collins answered the call again, draining a three to bring the lead to four, but the Lady Barons hit a midrange jumper to keep it a one-possession game, then Montgomery knocked down a jumper of her own to extend the lead again. Collins made another big three to make it a seven-point game with 5:01 left in the game. Both teams went back and forth until the 3:05 mark when a couple of free throws and a layup tied the game at 59 all. Another layup made by Brewton-Parker and they took the lead with 2:20 to go. Both teams traded misses until a big block and rebound from
Jasmyn Studamire gave the Night Hawks the ball with eight seconds to go. Ringold put up a midrange jumper but it missed to end the game.
Ringold finished with 17 points, a rebound and a block. Collins ended with 15 points, all of which came from deep, a rebound and two steals.
Destiny Hill had 12 points, four rebounds, six assists, a block and two steals. Finally, Montgomery got nine points, 16 rebounds, four assists and three blocks.
The Night Hawks end their five game road trip with a game against University of Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday, Feburary 11
th at 5:30 PM.
