THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomas took on NCAA Division II opponent Edward Waters Tigers in a midweek bout on Tuesday night at Varnedoe Stadium.
The bats for both teams were cold as both teams went three up and three down for the first two innings, then in the third, Edward waters got a man on third with one out and brought him home on a sacrifice bunt, putting the Night Hawks down one. In the bottom of the fourth, four straight walks by the Tigers brought a run home for Thomas to tie the game. Then
Riley Borgert sent one into the woods for a grand slam to break the game open.
The offense for both teams went cold until the sixth, with the bases loaded again,
Cameron Rosario knocked single down the right side which brought home
Jackson Thomas and Borgert to make it a six-run lead, then back-to-back walks scored
Trey Larkin to extend the lead to seven. The Tigers manage to tack on a run in the seventh and ninth, but Thomas stood firm and scored the first victory of the season.
Jaxon Smith got the start for the Night Hawks as he struck out two, allowed no hits and had one unearned in three innings of work,
Eddie Camolilla came in relief in the fourth and pitched two innings, recording three strikeouts and was credited with the win.
Reilly Kuhar then came in for a couple of innings allowing two hits, one earned and one unearned with a strikeout.
Matthew Demetree made his Night Hawks debut in the eighth, allowing a couple of hits and no earned runs. Finally,
Sam Odiorne closed out the game, giving up one hit, one earned and one unearned run. Smith and Camolilla had a combined one-hitter until the sixth inning.
The game was the last home game for the Night Hawks until Feburary 21
st as they go on the road this weekend for a series against University of Fort Lauderdale with a doubleheader on Friday, February 7
th at 3:00PM and 6:00PM and a game on Saturday, Feburary 8
th at 1:00PM.
