THOMASVILLE, Ga. --- The Night Hawks opened up the 2025 campaign with a tough test against the No. 8 Webber International Warriors on Friday Night in Varnedoe Stadium.
Â
Thomas fell behind in the second inning when Brandon Sanchez of Webber got one down the line in left to score the first run of the game, then Gabriel Cruz knocked one into center for another run to end the inning.
Â
The hole grew deeper for the Night Hawks as two more runs in the third inning had them looking at a 4-0 deficit. However, they did respond in the fourth with
Max Pickert scoring on an error to bring the lead down to three runs.
Â
The Warriors scored three more times in the seventh to increase the lead, but in the bottom of the eighth, the Night Hawks began to rally with
Seth Waltimyer and Pickert getting a couple of infield singles and
Tyler Marczak walking to load the bases with one out. Sadly, they ended the inning leaving all three runners on base. And Webber held strong for the rest of the game.
Â
The game was the first of a three-game series with the Warriors as Thomas takes them on again tomorrow, Saturday, February 1
st in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 PM at Varnedoe Stadium.
