THOMASVILLE, GA- Thomas kicked off the 2024 campaign, dropping a close one to the no.23 Southeastern Fire at the TU Soccer Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Night Hawks got off to a fast start as
Kaitlyn Herb made a great pass with five Fire defenders around her to
Pearl Mortimer who sent it in over the goalkeeper's reach for the first goal of the season 14 seconds into the match.

Southeastern responded four minutes later with an equalizer. The rest of the first half became a stalemate until a 40
th minute goal broke the tie giving the Fire a 2-1 lead at the break.

Thomas was not done however, as
Pearl Mortimer returned the favor to
Kaitlyn Herb, who split the ball pass two defenders for a goal of her own to equalize the game again. The tie did not last for long as two minutes later Mortimer scored a second goal to put the Night Hawks out in front.

The Fire answered back with a quick goal off of a deflection to bring the game back to even in the 71
st minute and again seven minutes later to end the upset bid.

The Night Hawks return to action on the road to play NCAA D-II opponent Albany State on August 26
th at 7:00pm.
