Night Hawks fall 9-5 in Game One of SSAC Tournament

Box Score THOMASVILLE, GA  |  Wednesday night, the #7 Thomas University Night Hawks (27-22) traveled to Jackson, TN to face the #2 William Carey University Knights (30-14) in the first round of the Southern States Athletic Conference baseball tournament.
 
In the top of the first inning, Kason Buie was hit by a pitch, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Riley Borgert. Max Pickert was then hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second with one out. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch. Jean Pool Checo hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Buie to give TU a 1 - 0 lead. JT Whatley followed with a two-run home run over the left field wall, extending the Night Hawks lead to 3 - 0.
 
The Night Hawks continued their momentum in the top of the third inning as two runs crossed the plate. Borgert led off the inning with a four-pitch walk, followed by another four-pitch walk to Pickert. Checo was hit by a fastball to load the bases with one out. JT Whatley worked a four-pitch walk to score Borgert from third, and M. Sowers worked another walk to score Pickert, extending the lead to 5 - 0. However, the Knights responded in the bottom of the frame with five runs of their own to tie the game at five. William Carey added runs in the sixth and eighth innings to secure a 9-5 victory.
 
Thomas University will be back in action on Thursday afternoon at 5:00 as the Night Hawks will play game two of the SSAC tournament against the #3 Point University Skyhawks.
