WEST PALM BEACH, FLÂ |Â The Night Hawks will get the opportunity to defend their 2022 and 2023 Sun Conference Flag Football Championships, due to their impressive victory over the Warner Royals, 26-0, on Friday.
Warner received the ball to open the game. Thomas would quickly force a turnover on downs, without allowing the Royals to gain a first down. Thomas, with a short field, would drive to the Warner 4-yard line, but the Night Hawks failed to convert on the drive.Â
On the next Royal possession, defensive player of the year,
Gisele Jones, would intercept the first pass of the drive, and return it for the 4-yard touchdown.Â
Alexa Wilson would connect with
Nakerra Brown for the extra point, to put the Night Hawks up 7-0, in the 1
st quarter. The Night Hawks defense would force another three-and-out, on the next Warner possession.
Thomas would add two additional touchdowns in the 2
nd quarter. Thomas would begin their drive with less than 2-minutes remaining in the 1
st quarter, and score approximately one-minute into the quarter. Wilson would hit
Kiera Knight on the 19-yard scoring pass (PAT failed). The Thomas defense would finally allow Warner to get a 1
st down, but ultimately forced a punt. The Night Hawks would take 4:31 to travel 46 yards, in seven plays. Wilson would hit
Gisele Jones on a 4-yard pass, for the score. A Wilson pass to Brown would bring the score to 20-0. Thomas would take that score into halftime.
Neither team would not score in the 3
rd quarter, but a Night Hawk secret weapon was discovered in the quarter. 1
st team All-Sun Conference rusher,
Kaitlyn Herb, showed the rest of the conference her other skills. Herb, who plays on the Women's Soccer Team, and was the SSAC Freshman of the Year, showed off her foot, with two booming punts in the 3
rd quarter. Herb would boom a 56-yard punt, from deep in Thomas territory, to back the Royals up to their 15-yard line, as they took possession. Later, Heb would punt the ball again, this time for 38 yards, but the punt had to be downed by Warner at their 6-yard line. Due the high-powered Thomas offense, Herb had only punted five times previously during the season.
Thomas would add one additional touchdown in the 4
th quarter. The Night Hawks would eat 8-minutes off the clock, on their scoring drive. Wilson would find
Gisele Jones for the 4-yard score (PAT failed). The touchdown would be her third of the day: one on defense and two on offense.
Thomas would complete their second shutout of the tournament with the 26-0 victory. The Night Hawks will face the winner of the Keiser vs. Webber International game, Saturday, April 27, at noon. For up-to-date information on this game and other TU Athletics, visitÂ
