Thomas Dethroned In Championship Game

Night Hawks were defeated in Sun Conference Championship game for the 1st time in program history.

WEST PALM BEACH, FL  |  Thomas took to the field at the Keiser Multi-Purpose Field, in West Pallm Beach, FL, on Saturday, and saw program history made.  Unfortunately, for the Night Hawks, they were on the wrong side of it, as they were defeated in the Sun confernce Championship Game, 6-0, by the Keiser Seahawks.

Thomas took the ball first, but was unable to move the ball past mid-field.  The Night Hawks were forced to punt.  Kaitlyn Herb pinned the Seahawks inside their 20-yardline, to the 19-yardline.

The Seahawks moved the ball down the field, but the Thomas red zone defense stood firm, forcing a turnover.  Following a Kaitlyn Herb sack, Kiera Knight would intercept a 2nd-and-gaol pass, and return the ball to the Thomas 15-yardline.  Unfortunately, four plays later, Thomas would throw an interception, giving the Seahawks a short field, as Keiser return the interception to the Thomas 13-yardline.

On 4th-and-goal, Keiser would score the only points on the day, with a 4-yard completion, to take the lead, 6-0 (PAT failed).  Thomas would be unable to score on their final two possessions of the half, and trailed 6-0 at halftime.

Each team would only complete one possession in the 3rd quarter.  As the teams continued to trade punts, into the 4th quarter, the Night Hawks would get one final opportunity with 1:56 remaining in the game.

Starting at their own 14-yardline, Thomas would drive the ball down the field into the Keiser red zone.  The Seahawks defense continued to bend, but not break, as Alexa Wilson's 4th down pass to Nakerra Brown in the end zone, fell incomplete, with 00:22 remaining.  Keiser was able to take a knee and hold on to the victory.

Thomas was out-gained 115 to 107 in total yards, with each team forcing an interception.  Kaitlyn Herb picked up her 30th sack, on the season, in the 1st quarter, and tallied a total of three sacks on the day, bringing her season total to 32.  Herb also punted the ball four times, for a 35.5 average, with three of her four punts landing inside the opponent's 20-yardline.  Nakerra Brown led the team in receptions with seven and Aliyah Wood led the team in receiving yards with 46.  Defensively, Janae Scott was tied for the team lead with three flag pulls and led the team with three pass break-ups.

The Night Hawks will now await an at-large bid to the NAIA Invitational, in Atlanta, GA, May 8-10, at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.  For up-to-date information on this game and other TU Athletics, visit http://www.TUNightHawks.com.
