THOMASVILLE, GA | The Sun Conference announced their major award winners in Flag Football, and Thomas brought home two of the major awards: Defensive Player of the Year and Champion of Character.
GISELE JONES - DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Chosen as an All-Conference Defensive Selection in 2022 at defensive back,
Gisele Jones (Tallahassee, FL) made the switch to linebacker this year, after spending the previous two seasons at cornerback. The transition has allowed the 2024 1st Team All-Conference defensive selection at linebacker, in conference play, to accumulate 17 total tackles, a team leading 7 interceptions, and 4 pass break-ups. For the entire season, Jones leads the team in interceptions 9, ranks second on the team in flag pulls with 38, has had three tackles for loss, one sack, 9 interceptions, and 10 pass break ups. Jones, who starts on both sides of the ball, is tied for the team lead in touchdown receptions with 11. Academically, Jones is majoring in Literature and Media and was selected to The Sun Conference All-Academic Team with a 3.77 GPA.
JANAE SCOTT, CHAMPION OF CHARACTER
A two-sport athlete at Thomas,
Janae Scott (Tallahassee, FL) has maintained a 3.9 GPA in Exercise Science. Scott, a 2024 All-Conference 1st Team defensive selection at linebacker, is a student mental health ambassador, who helped bring the first counseling center to Thomas. Scott primary focus, this year, has been telling her own personal story of her struggles with mental health to young athletes, as well as, older people who have been in and out of hospitals and rehab facilities. Scott helps them find healthy coping skills, and provides support, while helping them find their worth. She also volunteers as a chemistry tutor and serves hot meals to the homeless, as well as being a mentor to a very freshman heavy team. Scott was named the 2022 Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Year and the 2023 Sun Conference Champion of Character.
Both Jones and Scott have helped lead the Night Hawks to consecutive Sun Conference regular-season and tournament championships, and two consecutive appearances in the NAIA National Championship Game.
