In a riveting afternoon showdown at the TU Soccer Complex in Thomasville, GA, the Thomas University Night Hawks edged out the Talladega College Tornadoes 5-4.
The dramatic action kicked off early with
Elsebeth Andersen netting a penalty kick, registering her first goal of the season. Adding to the excitement in the first period,
Sasha Manders, assisted by
Pearl Mortimer, and
Ali Baca, with an assist from
Kaitlyn Herb, both found the back of the net, giving Thomas a comfortable 4-1 lead against their opponents at halftime. However, the Tornadoes fought back in the second period, tightening the score line.
Despite the pressure,
Kaitlyn Herb became the hero for the Night Hawks, scoring the crucial game-winning goal which was her second of the day. Her exceptional performance did not go unrecognized as she also provided a key assist earlier in the game.
The victory not only showcased thrilling individual performances and strategic gameplay but also marked Head Coach
Julie Orlowski's 10th winning season in her 12-year tenure at Thomas University, solidifying her remarkable coaching career. Thomas holds a current record of 9-6-1 overall and 5-3-1 in SSAC play. The Night Hawks look forward to continuing their momentum as they face Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in the first of two remaining contests in the regular season and SSAC play on Thursday, at the ABAC Soccer Field in Tifton, GA.
