THOMASVILLE, Ga. - The Night Hawks (8-6-1, 5-3-1 SSAC) picked up another conference win today in a 7-1 win over the Brewton-Parker Baron on Saturday afternoon at the TU Soccer Complex.
The day was an emotional one as
Emily Lamoreaux, Thorsteina Arnadottir,
Aquene Tollefson, Haliegh Joslin,
McKenna Swartzman and
Madelyn Musgrove were all honored as seniors for this team. Tollefson, who suffered an ACL injury earlier in the season returned to pitch to kick off for the opening minute before being subbed out for
Pearl Mortimer.Â
The scoring started in the 8th minute as Amira El Mansouri hit a free kick that went just by Lamoreaux's fingertips to put the Baron up 1-0 early. However, Thomas was not down long as
Sasha Manders delivered a beautiful corner for Musgrove to head in to equalize in the 12th minute. The offense of both teams stalled out for a bit until
Ali Baca finally hit pay dirt after a great set up by
Ruby Melis to give the Night Hawks the lead heading into the half.
In the second, the offense was silent for the first 10 minutes, until
Kaitlyn Herb found Manders for another goal to put the Night Hawks up by two in the 55th minute, but Manders was not done as she wrestled the ball away from the Brewton-Parker defender and muscled through two more to score another goal 23 seconds after her first.Â
The onslaught continued as Melis chipped a pass over to Mortimer who scooted by two defenders for a score in the 65th,
Hannah Henriksen got in on the action as she continued her stellar freshman season with a strike that went above the goalkeeper courtesy of Baca. Finally,
Isabel Cabello got her first career goal as a Night Hawk in the 80th minute as Manders sent in a sharp cross to her to finish the game.
The Night Hawks will be back in action on Tuesday, October 22 at 3:30 PM at the TU Soccer Complex in an non-conference matchup with Talladega.
