WEST POINT, Ga.- Thomas fought back from a deficit to gain a crucial SSAC win against Point Skyhawks on Wednesday afternoon.
The scoring opened up in the 20th minute as Isabella Frullaney nailed a shot to put the Skyhawks up 1-0, seven minutes later Bailey Turner went from making an assist on the previous goal to scoring one of her own to put them up by two. After being knocked down, Thomas started the counterattack, a corner from
Sasha Manders gave the opportunity for
Madelyn Musgrove to take a shot which was saved but the deflection opened the door for
Kaitlyn Herb to knock in a goal to bring the deficit down to one. Herb later had a second chance to equalize off of an improbable header, however, an offsides call negated the goal, keeping the game at 2-1 going into the half.
In the second half, The Night Hawks found another gear, putting pressure on the Point defense early on with another shot for Herb and a corner from
Sasha Manders. Finally in the 63rd minute,
Ali Baca found Herb on a run and she hit a bullseye to equalize. With the game level, both teams turned up the intensity with good shots and impressive saves, but Thomas refused to be denied, and Kaite Herb spoke the loudest, netting a beautiful shot off of another impressive pass from Baca to give the Night Hawks the lead in the 74th minute. With all the momentum, Thomas began to put the game away, with an unrelenting attack with shots from
Ruby Melis,
Jule Rohleder and Manders. Baca, after taking a shot of her own gained control of the ball again, this time setting up
Madelyn Musgrove for a quick strike to end the game.
Herb finished with a hat trick and Baca finished with a hat trick of assists. The Night Hawks have another key SSAC matchup traveling to Montgomery, Alabama to face Faulkner University on Saturday, October 12th at 2:30 PM.
