DAYTONA BEACH, FLA– The Thomas University Men's Track and Field team put the entire SUN Conference on notice in numerous events across the board for the two day SUN Conference Outdoor Championships. Several Night Hawks were able to punch their ticket to the NAIA National Outdoor Championship. The conference meet also marks the most successful meet that the Night Hawks have faced thus far in the last four years. In order to qualify for the podium, the athlete must finish in the top three of their respective event. The top eight in each event earns points toward their team's overall standing.
Freshman Darian Mills continued his historic freshman season in numerous events. The Port St.Joe native started off his weekend in the 400-meter hurdles, taking a first-place finish with a new school and personal record of 52.36.
Freshman Michael Eady put on a show in the 100-meter dash, taking a sixth place finish with an NAIA B' Standard time of 10.60, which marks a new school and personal record. Eady became the third person in program history to qualify for the big stage.
Freshman Seth Humphries continued the young leadership that the SUN Conference awarded him for his excellency in several events. The Brandford, Fla native was named Freshman of the Year after scoring sixteen points for the Green and White. Seth became the first person in program history to receive the Freshman of the Year award. Humphries took a third-place finish in the 800-meter run, with a time of 1:58.20. Additionally, Humphries took his chances in the 1500-meter for a second-place finish for a new school and personal time of 4:06.09.
Freshman Justin Hernandez added to the scoring party for TU. The Brandford, Fla native started off in the 800 meter run, taking a fifth place finish for a new lifetime best of 2:01.88. Hernandez also competed in the 1500 meter run, taking a sixth place finish for a new lifetime best of 4:13.95.
Junior Justin Tomison started the scoring festival for the Night Hawks early Saturday morning in the 10000 meter, taking a gold medal finish for a time of 33:33.00. Tomison also competed in the 5000 meter run, notching a fourth place finish with a time of 16:40.21.
Sophomore Jaqium Evans jumped his way to a fourth place finish with a measurement of 1.95 meters in the High Jump. Additionally, Evans also competed in the Long Jump securing a seventh place finish for a mark of 6.64 meters. The Ocala, Fla native jumped his way to seventh place finish in the Triple Jump for a mark of 13.30 meters.
Sophomore Tyrese Henderson also contributed to the Night Hawks scoring, competing in the Long Jump for an eighth place finish with a mark of 6.57 meters. Additionally, the Albany, Ga native took a sixth place finish in the Triple Jump with a distance of 13.58 meters.
Sophomore Ethan Fralish competed in Long Jump with a new school and personal record of 6.81 meters. The Thomasville, Ga native also competed in the Triple Jump, marking a third place finish with a distance of 14.02 meters.
The men's 4x1 relay (Darian Mills, Michael Eady, Kyron Belton, Andre Nembhard) took a fifth place finish for a time of 41.79.
The Green and White's 4x800 meter relay (Devin Crews, Sterling St-Cyr, Justin Hernandez, Emmanuel Tovar-Negrete) earned their right on the podium for a third place finish for a time of 8:11.44.
The men's 4x400 meter ended the Outdoor Championship on a fairy tale ending. (Darian Mills, Seth Humphries, Sterling St-Cyr, Devin Crews) made an electrifying statement, notching a first-place finish with a new school record of 3:17.35, which also marks an NAIA B' National Standard. The men's 4x400 relay becomes the first squad in program history to qualify for the big stage.
The Men's team finished in third place out of nine teams.
