GULF SHORES, Ala. — The Night Hawks participate the SSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a strong showing across the track and field events, highlighted by personal bests from four athletes.
Landon Watts kicked off the meet with a personal-best 33:27.54 in the 10,000 meters, earning eighth place. In the field, Ean Miller cleared 2.00 meters (6 feet, 6¾ inches) in the high jump for a fourth-place finish and a new personal best. Connor Munn placed eighth in the discus with a throw of 37.60 meters (123 feet, 4¼ inches), while Jadon Parker added an 11th-place mark of 34.43 meters (112-11¼).
On the track, Jayson Evans ran a personal-best 10.95 in the 100-meter prelims to place 14th, then followed with a 22.99 in the 200-meter prelims. Aaron Wilson recorded personal bests in both sprint events, running an 11.98 in the 100-meter prelims for 18th place and a 24.81 in the 200-meter prelims.
DAY 2 — APRIL 21
The Night Hawks' biggest highlight of the meet came Tuesday in the shot put, where Connor Munn launched a school-record throw of 14.15 meters (46 feet even) to claim a podium finish third place to earn SSAC First-Team All-Conference honors. Jadon Parker also competed in the event, finishing 11th at 11.75 meters (38-6½).
Watts returned to the track and ran a 16:08.73 in the 5,000 meters for 12th place — a mark that ranks third all-time in program history. Jerry Speights had another strong day in the field, finishing fourth in the triple jump at 13.64 meters, while Miller placed sixth in the same event at 13.24 meters.
The Night Hawks' relay squads closed out the meet on a high note. The 4x400-meter relay team of Nelson Lopez, Speights, Evans and Miller finished fifth in a season-best 3:33.55, with Lopez leading off in 51.56, Speights splitting 51.96, Evans running 55.51 and Miller closing in 54.11. The 4x100 squad of Evans, Speights, Aaron Wilson and Miller placed seventh in 50.47.
In the 800 meters, Lopez finished ninth in 2:00.23. Glenn Walker recorded personal bests in both the 1,500 and 800, placing 18th in the 1,500 at 4:56.66 and 21st in the 800 at 2:19.50. Fabian Jeune placed 20th in the 800 at 2:19.32.
