MOUNT VERNON, GA | Thomas opened up the 2023-24 track season in Mount Vernon, GA, at an event hosted by Brewton-Parker. Despite the event being outside in the elements (light rain all day), the meet was ran at indoor distances to prepare the athletes for the upcoming indoor season. Over 250 student-athletes participated in the meet.
Columbia International, Southeastern, and Thomas joined the host, Brewton-Parker at the meet, participating in both the Men's and Women's division. Thomas finished third in the Men's division with 90 points. Thomas finished fourth in the Women's division with 34 points.
Top performances in the field from the Men's competition were from
Tyrese Henderson and
Jaquim Evans. Henderson finished first in the triple jump with a distance of 13.84m and Evans topped the long jump with a distance of 6.91m. Henderson placed 10th in the long jump at 6.07m.
On the track,
Justin Tomison finished second in the 3000m at 9:05.80. Emmanuel Tovar-Negrete was second in the 1000m at 2:53.94. TJ Tulloch brough home 3rd in the 600m with a time of 1:31.26. Michael Eady finished third in the 60m at 6.91 and also placed fourth in the 200m at 21.79. Eady's time in the 200m was enough, in the first meet of the season, to meet the NAIA 'B' national qualifying standard in the event. The relay team of Tulloch, Tovar-Negrete, Kyron Belton, and Eady placed second in the 4x400m relay at 3:43.11.
Eady's and Henderson's performmances were good enough for the pair to be named the
SSAC Male Indoor Track Performers of the Week.
In the Women's field events,
Jennifer Coleman placed second in the shot put with a throw of 10.93m. On the track,
Cassandra Richards finished second in the 3000m with a time of 11:21.98.
