Night Hawks Compete at GA Small College Championships

Columbus, GA | Both the Night Hawks Men's and Women's Swim Teams competed at the Georgia Small College Championships Meet this weekend, held at the Columbus Aquatics Center.  The meet took place over three days, occurring Thursday, November 16 thru Saturday, November 18.

Thursday

Men
The group of Tim Brown, Jofre Mataro, Diego Alonso, and Ethan Kilgore was first, among the 13 groups, in the 4x50 yd. freestyle relay, clocking a time of 1:24.97.  The time was a 0:00:15 improvement over their best time of the season thus far.  Thomas' second entry in the event, Emil Schildhauer, Imme Bousema, Jacob Bilancione, and Ty LaRue, placed fourth in the event at 1:29.20, and collected points towards the team total score.

Francisco Visiedo Pereira placed third in the 500 yd. freestyle relay.  Emil Schildhauer (1:52.76) and Jofre Mataro (1:52.90) placed second and third, respectively, improving their season best times.  Schildhauer dropped 4.01 and Mataro dropped 2.10.  

Although the Night Hawks did not win the 50 yd. freestyle, they took the next four spots, in the order of finish. Tim Brown dropped his 0.21 to 20.81 and finished second, Kilgore shaved 0.19 off of his time to finish third at 21.21, Ty Larue improved 0.21 to finish fourth at 21.61, and Diego Alonso was fifth at 21.63, an improvement of 0.32.

Mataro, Schildhauer, Kilgore, and Brown were tops in the 4x100 yd. medley relay at 3:35.17, cutting their time by 5.46.
Women
Thomas placed second in the 4x50 yd. relay.  Lucia Roca, Anna Van De Keere, Karlie Autry, and Aspen Shipp shaved 0.65 off their season best time to record a time of 1:41.63.  The same group finished third in the 4x100 yd. medley relay at 4:06.54, shaving 3.94 off of their time.

Van De Kerre followed her previous performance with a first-place finish in the 500 yd. freestyle at 5:11.64, a 6.00 improvement.  Roca came in fourth in the same event at 5:28.34, improving 1.94.  

Friday

Men
Mataro, Schildhauer, Kilgore, and Brown scored another first place finish, for Thomas, in a relay, with their time of 1:32.51 in the 4x50 yd. medley relay, a 1.66 improvement.  Alonso, Bousema, Jonah Hendricks, and Larue finished fourth in the same event at 1:37.50.

Visiedo led all competitors int he 400 yd. individual medley, with a time of 4:18.49, a 8.34 improvement. Kilgore won the 100 yd. butterfly at 50.35, shaving 0.57 off of his time, while Hendricks finished fifth at 53.83, knocking 0.45 off of his time.  Mataro placed second in the 100 yd. backstroke at 50.71, improving 0.65.  Harrison Mosley (59.78) and Jacob Bilancione (1:03.68) finished fifth and sixth, improving 0.27 and 0.09, respectively.

The Night Hawks finished second int he 4x200 yd. freestyle relay.  Kilgore, Mataro, Visiedo, and Schildhauer improved their time by 1.57 to 7:00.34.  Brown, Bousema, Dallin Jensen, and Chase Parmen fished sixth in the same event at 7:20.61.
Women
Nissrine Bourbouh, Van De Keere, Shipp, and Roca finished fourth in the 4x50 yd. medley relay at 1:53.08, a 1.75 improvement.

Anna Van De Keere was tops in the 400 yd. individual medley at 4:40.60, a 2.15 improvement.  Shipp placed second in the 100 yd. butterfly at 57.60, a 0.66 improvement, while finishing first in the 100 yd. backstroke at 58.02, a 0.04 improvement.  Roca placed fifth in the 100 yd. breaststroke at 1:10.27, while Laura Garcia Zapater placed sixth at 1:11.74.  Roca shaved 0.81 and Zapater shaved 1.41 off of their times.

Thomas placed third in the 4x200 yd. freestyle relay.  Roca, Shipp, Autry, and Van DeKeere came in with a time of 8:01.59 and improved 2.55.

Saturday

Men
Dallin Jenson placed third in the 1650 yd. freestyle with a time of 17:15.24, a 30:46 improvement of his best for the season.  Francisco Visiedo Pereira placed fourth in the same event at 17:19.13.  Jofre Mataro shaved 8.90 off of his time to finish second int he 200 yd. backstroke at 1:51.55, while Harrison Mosley shaved 3.61 off  of his time to place fifth.  Ty Larue and Tim Brown placed second and fourth in the 100 yd. freestyle with times of 46.72 and 47.35, respectively.

The Night Hawk trio of Emil Schildhauer, Diego Alonso, and Imme Bousema placed two thru four in the 200 yd. breaststroke.  Ethan Kilgore took home the top time in the 200 yd. butterfly at 1:54.16, while Chase Parmen and Hayden Roberts finished third and fifth, respectively.  The Night Hawks two submissions in the 4x100 yd. freestyle relay finished third and fourth in the event.
Women
Anna Van De Keere had the top time in the 1650 yd. freestyle at 17:57.30, a 33.84 improvement.  Lucia Roca finished third in the same event at 18:19.09, a 21.81 improvement.  Aspen Shipp won the 200 yd. backstroke by three seconds with a time of 2:05.21, knocking 2.40 off of her best time.  Laura Zapater improved 3.33 in the 200 yd. breaststroke to finish fifth with a time of 2:34.56.  The team of Anna Van De Keere, Lucia Roca, Karlie Autry, and Aspen Shipp took third int he 3x100 yd. freestyle relay at 3:40.79.

Results

The Men won the six team event with a score of 867.0 points accumulated.  The Women placed fourth of the seven teams who competed with a score of 413.0 points.

Men
As a unit, Thomas is ranked 6th in the NAIA, thus far this season.  After the past weekend's competition, Diego Alonso ranks 8th nationally in 200 yd. breaststroke.  Ethan Kilgore ranks10th nationally in both the 100 yd. butterfly and 200 yd. butterfly.  On a national level, Jofre Mataro ranks 6th inthe 100 yd. backstroke, 6th inn the 200 yd. individual medley, and 7th in the 200 yd. backstroke. Emil Schildhauer ranks 5th in the 200 yd. individual medley and 6th in the 100 yd. breaststroke.  The Night Hawks own the 4th best 4x50 yd medley ralay, 5th best 4x100 yd. medlay relay, 6th best 4x200 yd. freestyle relay, and 8th best 4x50 yd. freestyle relay.
Women
Anna Van De Keere is second in the nation in the 1650 yd. freestyle.  Aspen Shipp owns the 2nd best 200 yd. backstroke time and 4th best 100 yd. backstroke time.  The relay teams have recorded the 7th best 4x200 yd freestyle time and 10th best 4x100 yd. freestyle time.
