The Thomas Men and Women swim teams competed in the Cross-Divisional Quad, hosted by the University of West Florida, on Friday. While Loyola-New Orleans was the only other competitor in the men division, the women not only competed against Loyola-New Orleans, but also against the host West Florida. West Florida, traditionally, is one of the top programs in NCAA Division II.
The men defeated Loyola 153.0-85.0 in the water. Swimming with three relay teams, Thomas finished first, third, and sixth in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of Jofre Masaro,
Emil Schildhauer,
Ethan Kilgore, and
Tim Brown winning the event at 1:34.17. Masaro, Diego Alonso, Ty Larue, and Brown won the 200y freestyle relay at 1:28.35, against three other teams, including a second entry from Thomas.
In men individual events, Kilgore was the top finisher in the 200y freestyle (1:46.82). Mastaro won the 100y backstroke (50.97) and 200y backstroke (1:55.08). Schildhauer was king in the 100y breaststroke (58.87), 200y breaststroke (2:09.40), and 200y individual medley (1:59.97). Brown took the 50u freestyle (21.33) and 100y freestyle (47.88). Fran Visiedo won the 500y freestyle (4:56.00). Kilgore took the 100y butterfly (52.54).
The women lost to West Florida 159.0-52.0 and to Loyola 135.5-93.5.Â
Karlie Autry finished 5
th in the 100y backstroke (1:03.50) and 3
rd in the 200y backstroke (2:18.30).Â
Aspen Shipp finished 3
rd in the 200y butterfly (30.68) and 100y freestyle (57.00), as well as 2
nd in the 100y butterfly (1:02.21). Anna Van DeKeere was 2
nd in the 500y freestyle (5:19.65).
The Night Hawks will be at home for their next two meets. The first of the two meets will be Saturday, October 14 at Thomasville's Butler-Mason YMCA versus South Georgia College. The meet will begin at 1pm.
