THOMASVILLE, Ga- Fernada Blakely was hired as Assistant Coach for the Cross Country / Track and Field teams Thursday, announced Head Coach Scott Gowan.
Blakely joins the Green and White after moving to the Sunshine State in 2014 to become Chiles High School Cross Country / Track and Field assistant coach under the direction of Gowan. During Fernada's time at Chiles, the men's Cross Country / Track and Field team won their state championship in the 2014-2015 season.
Additionally, Blakely is no stranger to developing well-rounded athletes as one Timberwolve was named All- Big Bend Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year in 2015.
Blakely was also a part of NCAA Division 1 Wichita State University track and field program back in 2011. Fernada sent several WuShocks' to the NCAA Championship, notching Top 10 finishes in their respective events.
"Coach Blakely is an outstanding sprints coach who will do a great job with our men and women sprinters, " Head Coach Scott Gowan said. "Coach Blakely has competed at very high levels and gained valuable experiences as to how an athlete must train and live in order to reach the top of their chosen profession. We've worked together before for two years and had great success during our time together with several state titles along the way. I am excited about the opportunity to reunite with him as we look forward to putting together a Cross Country / Track and Field championship team here at TU. I want to welcome Coach Blakely and his family to the Night Hawk family."
