THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team travels to Mount Vernon, Ga. Tuesday to face the Barons of Brewton-Parker College for a non-conference showdown that was initially scheduled to be played April 5th.
After suffering from a nine-game skid, the Night Hawks (18-25, 2-16 SUN) responded with a strong week of baseball, winning three of its four contests in the previous week that included its first SUN victories and a series win over USC-Beaufort. Redshirt Junior
Anthony Dorak had the best hitting consistency of all Night Hawks, batting an impressive .750 with five RBIs. As a whole, Thomas enters Tuesday coming off a week in which the Green & White averaged 10.25 runs a game and nearly 13 hits per contest.
Freshman Right-Hander
Justin Montanez (2-2) was one TU pitcher that saw a moderate-sized improvement, allowing no runs off eight hits and striking out nine in a total of six and one-third innings pitched. The Spring Hill, Fla. native's efforts closed out a 16-7 win over Edward Waters while anchoring a 7-5 victory in the most recent contest against USCB.
For the second time this season, Freshman Left-Hander
Riley Fisher (3-8) finished a contest with six innings pitched over the weekend, giving up four runs off six hits while fanning four.
Thomas could not have caught BPC (16-24, 10-8 SSAC) at a better time, as the Barons currently ride a four-game skid after recently being swept by RV William Carey over the weekend. Nevertheless, Matt Collins continues to lead Brewton-Parker's hitting charge, batting .348 on the season.
The pitching staff for BPC has several throwers that have carried the load for the Barons, but primary pitcher Ty Cook (5-4) has pitched the most with 70.2 innings, holding a 3.95 ERA by giving up a total 75 hits, 43 runs with 31 earned, 29 walks and 98 strikeouts. Austin Visocchi (3-4) has pitched 59 innings in 2022, allowing 60 hits, 45 runs with 38 earned, 23 walks and fanning 43 for an ERA of 5.80.
Earlier in the season, the Night Hawks handled the Barons 20-10 in seven innings, highlighted by a barrage of hits from Fleenor and Redshirt Senior
Brad Toxen, among many others.
