THOMASVILLE, Ga.- The Thomas University baseball team is set to host its final pair of games in its March home-laden slate, as the Night Hawks will complete its regular-season series against Trinity Baptist College Tuesday evening in non-conference play.
This season for TU (13-15, 0-9 SUN) has been a rollercoaster sequel, as the Green & White have now seen multiple win streaks and losing streaks in 2022. As of recent, Thomas is hopeful to snap its current six-game skid after being swept by #1 Southeastern in its last outing. The Night Hawks used its latest series as an opportunity to give a number of reserves some playing time, including Sophomores
William Martinez and
Owen Taylor.
The Night Hawks enter Tuesday's doubleheader averaging .279 at the plate that includes a .379 slugging percentage. Sophomore
Turner Maddox remains consistent at the batter's box, registering a hit in 18, consecutive contests while leading the team in batting average (.380) and runs scored (22).
On the mound, Sophomore
Bradley Peacock limited Southeastern to two earned runs in seven hits while striking out three, as Freshman
Zachary Buelk pitched 3.1 innings against the Fire to allow just two hits and fanning four.
Since its first meetings with Thomas, Trinity Baptist (11-14) has been on the road for the RussMatt Invitational and the PBR College Classic. With an extra home series, the Eagles have gone 7-7 since being swept by the Night Hawks in Jacksonville, Fla.
From the batter's box, TBC holds a team average of .243, led by Tyler Graves with a .429 average on the 2022 season. The Eagles' pitching staff consists of a plethora of players. Caden Reeves (2-1) has been a prominent pitcher for the Blue & White, entering Tuesday with a 3.47 ERA allowing a season total 23 hits, 12 runs with nine earned, five walks and 15 strikeouts.
Earlier in the season, TU was locked in a defensive battle with TBC in the first game, as both teams recorded a run apiece in the opening before the Green & White took the win in extra innings, fueled by a three-run ninth inning to defeat the Eagles 4-2 before sixth and seventh-inning sprees in the second game led the Night Hawks to another win over Trinity Baptist in a 12-1 thumping.
While Thomas recently took its 20th win over the Eagles, the team will look to remain perfect at home against Trinity Baptist since April 2017.
