Thomas Looking to Stay "Zoned In" vs. Indiana Tech

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team will look to continue its recent surge of success this weekend at home, as the Night Hawks host Indiana Tech for a two-game, non-conference series.

TU (13-9, 0-6 SUN) has picked up a red-hot streak, winning six of the previous seven games including a five-game win streak.  The Night Hawks' most recent win came in walkoff fashion in extra innings, as a sacrifice fly from Redshirt Freshman Cameron Rosario brought home Redshirt Junior Anthony Dorak for the game-winning run in an 8-7 thriller against Indiana University-South Bend. Thomas' 8-5 win over Rochester University in its first game of the trip marked Head Coach Tom Fleenor's 40th program win.

The Night Hawks this season are hitting .298 on the year on 212 of 711 with 148 runs scored, 43 doubles, six triples, eight home runs and 136 RBI.  The team is slugging .409 and reaching base at a .404 clip, while drawing 111 walks and fanning 152 times.  TU is 36 of 41 in stolen bases and has a .952 fielding percentage with 36 errors on the year.

Redshirt Freshman Cameron Rosario leads the team with a .413 average in 13 starts.  The Florida A&M transfer is 19 of 46 from the plate with 14 runs scored, nine RBI, and one double.  Freshman Matthew Delay Jr.'s 11 doubles on the season is ranked sixth in NAIA.  Freshman Michael Sowers is a perfect 8 for 8 in stolen bases, scoring 15 runs while slugging .352 and reaching base at a .398 clip.  Sophomore Turner Maddox leads the team in runs scored (21) and OBP (.467).  Sophomore Luis Torres and Redshirt Senior Brad Toxen lead the team with two home runs apiece.  Along with Sowers, Rosario also leads the team with 8 of 9 stolen bases.

On the bump, Freshman Left-Hander Riley Fisher holds a 4.00 ERA and a 2-3 record in 27.0 innings, leading the team with 28 Ks while Freshman Right-Hander Zachary Buelk is 3-1 with an opposing batting average of .256 in nine innings pitched.  As a staff, the Night Hawks hold a 5.65 ERA with one complete game, one shutout and four saves in 178.1 innings.  TU has allowed 201 hits, 137 runs with 112 earned, walked 106 and fanned 177 as teams are hitting .282 against them.

The Warriors (7-9) come off a two-game win streak, including an 11-8 upset over #1 Southeastern.  IT recently completed a seven-game trip in Lakeland, Fla. hosted by SEU, dropping the first five contests before securing wins over Northwestern College and the Fire.  Indiana Tech currently bats .290 on the season and is led by Manuel Ascanio (.353) at the plate with four RBI, one home run and two stolen bases.  Tristan Osika leads the Warriors with 10 RBI.  IT currently boasts five batters hitting .300 or better in 2022.  Hayes Sturtsman has seen the most time on the mound this season (15.2 innings), holding a 4.60 ERA on the season with a record of 1-1 and allowing eight runs, 22 hits, and 18 strikeouts. Opponents have hit .344 on Sturtsman this season.

Indiana Tech leads the all-time series 2-1, with both teams meeting for the first time in Thomasville, Ga. at Varnedoe Stadium in 2020.  The Green & White's latest contest versus IT resulted in the team's first-ever win against the Warriors 16-3.

First pitch at Varnedoe Stadium is set for Saturday at 3 p.m. as Sunday's single game will begin at Noon. Fans unable to attend can follow the live action by accessing the links below for each contest:
