THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team is ready to begin the 2022 campaign, as the Night Hawks open at home with a three-game, non-conference series this weekend against Talladega College.
Since its win against (then) #14 Keiser that concluded the 2021 season, TU has been hard at work, ready to compete once more for a conference championship. In its exhibition series against Atlantis last week, the Green & White tallied a combined 47 runs that included four total home runs and numerous hits.
This season, the Night Hawks are led by Redshirt Senior
Brad Toxen, who finished 2021 as TU's leader in Home Runs (8) and RBIs (35). Sophomore
Turner Maddox will look to play a significant role in the hitting lineup, as the native of Thomaston, Ga. finished last season with the team's highest batting average (.349).
Talladega will also open its 2022 season in the Rose City, as the Tornadoes are on a quest to return to the NAIA Tournament for the fourth time in a six-year span.
Last season, Thomas traveled to Talladega, Ala. to face the Tornadoes in doubleheader fashion, splitting the series. The Green & White took Game One after trailing 3-2 for the majority of the contest, scoring five, unanswered runs in the seventh inning to clinch a 7-4 win. In Game Two, the Night Hawks tied the game at three runs apiece in the top of the seventh, only for 'Dega to capitalize with a walk-off run that gave the Tornadoes a 4-3 victory.
Stay tuned for more preview details on 'Dega.
TU enters the weekend trailing Talladega 4-3 in the overall series.
First pitch at Varnedoe Stadium is set for Saturday at 3 p.m. EST., as the twinbill set is slated for Sunday at noon. Fans unable to attend the weekend series can follow the live action for each contest with the links below:
