Hoover Bound: Night Hawks Set to Face Asbury (Ky.)

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team hits the road this weekend, travelling to Hoover, Ala. to take on NCAA DIII opponent Asbury University in a neutral, non-conference three-game series.

The Night Hawks (3-1) began the 2022 season with authority, averaging 9.3 runs scored with 10.3 hits a game.  In the first four games of the season, Night Hawk nation witnessed an infusion of offense firsthand, as the Green & White averaged .328 from the batter's box.

The "Baby Hawks" are making significant impacts, as both Redshirt Freshman Cameron Rosario (.500) and Matthew Delay Jr. (.429) lead TU in batting average.  Freshman Michael Sowers heads into the weekend with a .333 batting average, highlighted by a triple and four RBIs.  On the mound, nine of the 15 current total pitchers made their NAIA debuts, as Left-Hander Riley Fisher (1-0) won the season opener with a 0.00 ERA, allowing an unearned run with five hits and seven strikeouts in five and one-third innings.  Right-Hander Zachary Buelk (1-0) has also made an immediate impact, giving up just two hits in two innings pitched.

Veterans like Redshirt Juniors Anthony Dorak and Bradley Fleenor, along with Redshirt Senior Brad Toxen, lead TU in RBIs, each recording six apiece.

Asbury (Ky.) will begin its season against the Night Hawks, as the Eagles return players such as Walker Paris (.416) and Pitchers, Jackson Cole, Bobby Vasquez, and Holten Handel.  From the plate, Paris finished last season as the team's leader in RBIs (68), Home Runs (12), and hits (64).  On the mound, Cole finished the previous season with a 2.45 ERA and a 3-2 record, 42 hits and 11 earned runs and throwing 33 strikeouts.

This weekend will mark the first, ever meeting between the Night Hawks and the Eagles.
