Reed's 25 Leads the Way, but TU Falls Short to the Gyrenes

Box Score

THOMASVILLE, GA — The Thomas University Women's basketball team lost to Ave Maria 66-52 Saturday. The matchup also featured Destiny Reed hitting a new season-high of 25 points.

The Graduate student forward has been on a hot streak as of late, scoring a third of the team's points in a loss to Southeastern earlier this week before the huge output Saturday afternoon. Despite the individual success of Reed, the Night Hawks still shot the ball at a mere 33 percent for the game.

The game was a tale of two halves, as the Night Hawks led by three going into the halftime break (33-30) before the Gyrenes went on a late 12-2 third quarter run to go up by ten entering the final quarter of action, 53-43.

Additionally for TU, Ta'Nija Watson hit the double-digit mark for the fourth straight time this season, while also contributing around the court picking up seven rebounds, three steals, and two blocks to go along with those 10 points.

On Saturday the Night Hawks did a particularly good job of taking care of the basketball, giving away a season-low 7 turnovers.  TU also outscored the Gyrenes in the paint 28-26, but the team's poor shooting from outside (1-9) resulted in the lack of offensive output.

The Gyrenes were led by their Freshman superstar Gianna Santacroce who came off the bench to score 18 points to lead the team to the 66-52 victory.

Up next, the Night Hawks will host two SUN Conference contests next week. First hosting the Bobcats from St. Thomas University on Thursday before the Lions from Florida Memorial come to visit the Rose City.

Tipoff on Thursday is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the TU Gymnasium.
