Phillips Marks Historic Performances

SEWANEE, TN. –The Thomas University Men's Indoor Track and Field team had yet another strong weekend as the Green and Black competed at their first Indoor facility on Saturday morning at the Tiger Invitational hosted by the University of The South. 




HIGHLIGHTS: Freshman Ethan Phillips had a historic day, as the Thomasville, Ga native became the first person in program history to qualify for the NAIA Indoor Nationals with several, record breaking performances. Ethan Phillips captured first place in the 55 meter hurdles with a new school record and NAIA B standard time of (7.64). Phillips also notched a first place finish in the 200 meter run with a new school record time of (22.99). Graduate Student Kadeem boasted a third place finish and new school record in the one mile run with a time of (4:46.69). Sophomore Justin Tomison Followed behind the Cottondale, Fla native finishing in fourth place with a time of (4:48.47). Junior Devin Crews took second place in the 400 meter run (52.86) and fourth in the 200 meter run (23.76). Sophomore Keyon Joyce took third place in the 400 meter run with a time of (52.89). Freshman Jamel McNair took third place in the 200 meter run with a time of (23.65). Justin Tomison took first place in the 3000 meter run with a time of (9.39.53). Freshman Elias Lopez-Gomez took second place with a time of (11:10.87). Junior Andrew Stone followed behind the Cairo, Ga native taking third place with a time of (11:19.30). The 4x4 team took first place with a time of (3:36.87). Freshman Jaquim Evans notched his third consecutive first place finish in the High Jump with a mark of (1.80 meters). Freshman Joshwa Copeland notched a new school and personal record in the Pole Vault with a height of (3.36 meters). 

 

WHAT'S NEXT: The Night Hawks will head into post season play as the Green and Black will head to Birmingham, Ala Monday February 7th, for the SUN Conference Indoor Championships.
