Box Score ROME, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's soccer team found its stride Friday evening in a memorable 3-1 win over Shorter University at Ben Brady Field that saw Head Coach
Julie Orlowski reach 200 career wins.
Junior Forward
Jana Pastorek had her best game yet donning the Green & White, recording her first career hat trick. The Night Hawks (1-1) had a strong offensive performance, outshooting the Hawks 15-7, with 13 shots on goal. Sophomore Goalkeeper
Emily Lamoreaux faced four shots on goal, recording three saves.
After an early goal from Shorter gave the host team a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute, TU quickly responded with the equalizing goal by Pastorek off a pass from Redshirt Sophomore
Jade Guyton. Less than a minute later, the Moormerland, Germany native took advantage of a Shorter miscue, intercepting a pass that led to a fired shot over SU Goalkeeper Emily Lopez for what would become the game-winning goal for Thomas.
In the 56th minute, the Night Hawks played dump-and-chase, as Guyton took off, leaving the Hawk defense trailing behind. The Thomasville, Ga. native's shot was stopped, but a poor clearance from Shorter set Pastorek up for her third goal of the night, delivering a header that sailed over Lopez and into the net to seal a Night Hawks' 3-1 victory.
"Tremendous team effort from everyone tonight," said Orlowski. "Always great to get the first W of the season." For the coach hailing from St. Louis, Mo., reaching the 200-win milestone was a feat she knew could not have been accomplished alone. "Individual awards and milestones like this one come on the backs of generations of players. From the early days at St. Thomas to UNF to Boise State, Stetson and now TU. I am honored that their efforts have earned this for me."
