THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Men's soccer is looking continue their fresh start to the season, as the Night Hawks travel to Mobile, Ala. Sunday to face Spring Hill College.
The Night Hawks (1-0) had an impressive showing against Brewton-Parker in their last matchup as Thomas came out on top 2-1. Thomas University's back line held strong allowing only two shots on goal as Senior Goalkeeper Josh Ricord made his first start of the season. On the offensive end, Connor Parry's goal in the seventh minute put the green and white ahead before the Barons' late goal in the 78th minute tied the scoring at one a piece. Thomas continued to test BPC goalkeeper Jamair Stewart throughout the contest and in the 81st minute Sophomore Hudson Cougill's provided the eventual game-winner off a beautiful cross from Giacomo Bacigalupo.
SHC (0-0) will host TU Sunday, August 29, at 2 p.m. after opting out of the 2020 season. The Badgers will open the 2021 season at Library Field under direction from newly appointed head coach Chris Leonardi. Leonardi joins SHC after seven successful seasons as the Men's Head Coach at Martin Methodist College. Assistant Coach Adam Looney also joined the Badgers in July and will work alongside Leonardi in all facets of the soccer program. Spring Hill will return GSC All-Conference 2nd Team Member Erdelyi Alessandro in goal, Alessandro comes into this weekends matchup with 23 appearances and 21 starts.
Sunday's matchup against the Badgers will be the Night Hawks' first meeting against SHC in over seven years, dating back to August 2013. In that matchup, Thomas dominated 6-1, firing 19 shots on goal.
