THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University baseball team will travel to Talladega, Ala. this weekend for a three-team doubleheader series against #20 University of Mobile and Talladega College.
While the Night Hawks (3-11, 0-6 TSC) may not have come away victorious last weekend, Junior Redshirt
Brad Toxen provided a silver lining in TU's series against #30 Webber International, registering a home run in each contest. The Hunter Green & White is also making strides at the plate, averaging nine hits a game in its latest series and six and a half hits overall in the 2021 season.
#20 Mobile (6-4) will take on Talladega College for a second doubleheader on Friday before facing the Night Hawks. The Rams were off to a hot start this season, winning four of its first five games, but recently lost three of its last five games, all to Spring Hill College despite it being an NCAA Division II school.
UM's hitting unit is led by Christian Poche', who boasts a .441 batting average with a .559 slugging percentage, while posting seven RBIs and seven stolen bases on the 2021 season. Bailey Bannon has been another key piece for the Rams at the plate, as the RBI leader (10) holds a slugging percentage of .485 with five stolen bases.
On the mound, Tucker Musgrove (3-0) and Bailey Sellers (1-0) lead UM's pitching unit. As Thomas began its season with two, nationally-ranked opponents, host Talladega College (4-6) has had a similar start, dropping its first four games. Since then, the Tornadoes have won four of its last six, including a doubleheader split with NCAA Division II Tuskegee.
The Tornadoes have only three players batting better than .300 on the season. Jeffry Roldan enters the weekend batting .320, including a 68% slugging percentage, that has resulted in nine RBIs on the season. Roldan also made all three, season home runs for Talladega.
