THOMASVILLE, Ga. – With two weekends remaining in The Sun Conference, the Thomas University Men's basketball team has plenty at stake, as the team hosts St. Thomas Thursday evening in TSC action.
Thursday's contest will mark the first time in five years that a Thomas-St. Thomas regular-season series begins in February. A scheduled contest on January 9th was postponed due to a COVID case from STU's side.
The Hunter Green & White (8-13, 8-7 TSC) currently sit in the driver's seat to potentially host a conference quarterfinal game, but the Bobcats (8-9, 7-8 TSC) have an opportunity to finish the weekend in the fourth spot in TSC's standings, pending another win against Coastal Georgia, who sits a half game behind TU.
Thomas may have lost two of its last three contests, but both of those losses came against the top two teams in the conference, in which both teams won by four points after the Night Hawks held a sizable lead. TU's shooting from the field continues to make gradual improvements, shooting on average just under 51% in the last four games.
Junior Guard
Tim Williamson has averaged 14.75 Points per Game in his last four contests, while Senior Forward has averaged 12.75 points in that same span.
While STU has won five of the last six matches against the Night Hawks, the Bobcats have struggled down the stretch this season, winning just three of its last eight contests. Of those three wins, two of them saw St. Thomas nearly blowing sizable leads (14 and 18 points) within a 10-minute span in the second half to Webber International and Coastal Georgia, respectively.
The Burgundy & Navy are led by Quinterious Jones in scoring (12.23 points a game) while Jahsim Floyd leads a rebound-aggressive squad, averaging 5.7 boards a game. The Bobcats have one of the top rebounding averages in the conference with 38.7 per game compared to the Night Hawks who average under 30 boards a game.
Turnovers may also play a factor in Thursday evening's contest. While TU leads the conference in Steals a Game (9.3) and St. Thomas 8.3 a game, the Night Hawks only average 14.3 turnovers, while St. Thomas shares the second-highest turnover average in TSC (16.9).
Tipoff against the Bobcats is slated for 6 p.m. Fans can follow the live action through the links below:
