Women's Basketball Hits the Road for Conference Matchups

THOMASVILLE, GA - The Thomas University women's basketball team's long awaited return to action is finally here. The Night Hawks travel to Miami Garden for a pair of crucial SUN Conference contests this weekend. First, traveling to play the Lions from Florida Memorial on Thursday, before competing against St. Thomas on Saturday. Both games will be followed by the Men's program.

The Night Hawks (1-6, 1-2 SUN) will hope the eight day break from play will help fuel the team going forward, as the Ladies search for win number two and three on the season against the tough SUN Conference opponents.

The Women's team is led by Graduate Student Destiny Reed, who is averaging 13 points per contest. Coming off the bench, Freshman Jaleigh Miller has been sensational for the Night Hawks averaging just over ten points per game in her limited 20 minutes of action. Defensively the team has been led by Junior guard Amayla Sharif who has picked up an average of two steals per contest.

First, the Night Hawks will travel to face off against the Lions (5-4, 3-0 SUN) from Florida Memorial. The Lions have been perfect in Conference play so far this season, beating Keiser, Warner, and St. Thomas earlier this season. The Lions are led by four individuals who average at, or just over, ten points per game. Guards Chantel Barnet and Keaynna Tolbert lead the team with over 13 ppg., while Barnet has forced a team-best 26 turnovers entering the contest.

The Night Hawks will look to end their current three-game skid against the Lions on Thursday. Tipoff at the FMU Wellness Center is scheduled for 6 p.m. Fans can tune into the game by accessing the links below.

After the weekday contest, the Ladies will have just under 20 hours to prepare, as the Bobcats from St. Thomas will be the Nights Hawks next target.

The Bobcats (5-3) have had a bumpy start to Conference play sitting at 1-2, but the team hopes the reigning player of the week Brook Bogatz can carry her dominating performances from a week ago into this weekend's contest.

The Sophomore guard is averaging just over 12 points per game, coming off the bench in all eight of her appearances this year. The Bobcats will test the Night Hawk defense on Saturday, as the team has five players sitting around the 40% mark from three. STU plays a unique brand of basketball that focuses on defensive efforts and efficient shooting. Going into the weekend contest, the turnover battle will be key, as the Bobcats sit at a perfect 5-0 in the games where they pick up less turnover than their opponents.

Tipoff at the Fernandez Family Center is scheduled for 2 p.m. Links to follow along with the contest are provided below.
