THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's soccer team is set to host its SUN Conference home opener Saturday as the Night Hawks will face off against #10 Southeastern University.
This NAIA National Tournament Opening Round grudge match for Thomas (5-5, 0-2 SUN) will prove to be a must-win contest for both teams, as TU and SEU (6-3, 0-2 SUN) have struggled to start conference play this season. The Night Hawks will look to rebound from a tough weekend in the team's previous outings, falling to #2 Keiser and RV Ave Maria by respective score lines of 4-0 and 2-1.
Despite the outcomes, TU witnessed another first-career goal, this time from Freshman midfielder
Raelin Lescher who became the fifth Night Hawk this season to register a first-ever goal.
While Southeastern's flames were extinguished over the weekend, the Fire have blazed across the state of Georgia this week, recently escaping with a 1-0 win over RV Georgia Gwinnett with a game-winning goal from Ramsey Watkins. The score from the Lakeland, Fla. native is the Fire's lone goal in the past three contests.
On a typical day of the season, Aisha Solorzano has been SEU's "firepower," tallying six goals and five assists. Goalkeeper Holly Eddins heads into Saturday with a 1.72 Goals Allowed Average and a .643 Save Percentage.
Thomas and Southeastern's overall series is deadlocked at 6-6, with the Fire taking the last five consecutive contests, including last spring's NAIA National Tournament Opening Round with a 3-0 win.
Kickoff at TU Soccer Complex is set for 1:30 p.m. Nick Pope will have the live call of the match. Fans can tune into the live coverage by following the links below:
