THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's soccer team hits the road this weekend, as the Night Hawks travel to the Atlantic coast to face USC-Beaufort Thursday before taking on nationally-ranked SCAD-Savannah Saturday for crucial, SUN Conference matches.
With four games remaining in the regular season, TU (6-7, 1-4 SUN) currently sits two games out of the conference playoff picture but will have an uphill climb as the team faces two teams in the upper half of the standings.
The Green & White come off a weekend in which the team has outscored its opponents 4-3. While Junior
Jana Pastorek has yet to score in conference play, the German played a significant role in the Night Hawks' shutout win over Florida Memorial, providing two assists in the contest. Sophomore
Janae Scott saw limited minutes against FMU but maximized her scoring opportunities, notching a pair of scores that ended up putting away the Lions in the first half.
In net, both Goalkeepers have shown consistent numbers. While Sophomore
Emily Lamoreaux started against Florida Memorial and played a flawless first half, Sophomore
Trinity Chastain comes off a weekend in which the Florida Panhandle native saw a total of 135 minutes, recording ten saves and averaging an .875 Save Percentage.
TU @ USCB (10/21)
Thursday's match against the Sand Sharks (9-5-1, 3-2-1 SUN) could prove to be the conference's trap game of the weekend. While Thomas is looking to play spoilers in Bluffton, S.C., USCB has been hot and cold, going 2-2-1 in the last five games that have included nail-biting wins over Ave Maria and Webber International and most recently a 0-0 draw with Warner. While USCB may lead the conference in Goals Scored (60), nearly half of the team's scores came from a 29-0 blowout win over Allen University alone earlier this season.
Offensively, the Sand Sharks are led by Mari Kalvatn (15 G, 8 A), Madison Foshee (10 G, 5 A), and Synne Bye-Anderson (7 G, 8 A). Although USCB's shot average this season is 20.75 a contest, the team has averaged just over 15 shots in the last three games that included just seven total shots against the Royals of Warner.
Defensively, USC-Beaufort has allowed double-digit shots to its opponents in the last five contests, averaging 20.2 shots in that span. In net, Mariah Ruckdeschel has made over 78% of saves, allowing 1.73 goals a game.
While Thomas has an overall 6-3 series lead over USCB, the Sand Sharks have won the last two contests with a one-goal scoring difference.
Kickoff at Fin Land Field is slated for 3 p.m. Fans can tune into the live action by following the links below:

TU @ (RV) SCAD (10/23)
After sitting out the previous season due to COVID, SCAD-Savannah (9-4-1, 4-1-1 SUN) has become a serious threat in the SUN Conference, averaging just under 24 shots a game and 3.25 goals scored. Since the SUN Conference/Southern States Challenge earlier this season, the Bees have won five of its last seven contests and head into the weekend with a three-game winning streak. One of SCAD's specialties this season has been the ability to land shots on target; the Bees boast four of the conference's top ten players with the best shots on goal (SOG) average.
TU will need to keep an eye on SCAD's Sydney Chura Saturday, as the Milford, Mich. native has averaged 5.2 shots a game, including the conference's best SOG average (2.81). Chura's 12 goals on the season is also a SUN Conference best. Abigail Siddall (10 G, 4 A) enters the weekend on a three-game goal scoring streak, taking the second-most shots (35) on the team.
Despite posting a .714 Save Percentage, Eliana Charalambous has been efficient in protecting the pipes for the Bees, recording 40 season saves and posting a 1.33 Goals Allowed Average. Part of Charalambous' success in net can be accredited to SCAD's backline that has allowed an average of 3.67 shots on goal in the last three games.
The overall series between the Bees and the Night Hawks is deadlocked at 7-7, with TU taking five of the last six matches.
Kickoff at SCAD Athletics Complex is scheduled for 2 p.m. Below are the live links fans can follow to access coverage:
