THOMASVILLE, Ga. – The Thomas University Women's basketball team hosts Webber International for Saturday afternoon action in The Sun Conference.
TU (1-9, 1-9 TSC) has proven the team can keep up with its rivals, however the Hunter Green & White must avoid falling behind early. Last time against WIU (10-4, 6-3 TSC), Thomas appeared to have the Warriors in check, until a 20-1 second period in favor of Webber doomed any chance of coming back, ultimately leading to a 78-49 defeat at Babson Park, Fla.
Senior Guard
Alexis Powell leads TU in scoring (12.4), but has also shot 50% from beyond the arc as of late. Senior Guard
Alisha Clayton will look to obtain a fourth double-double on Saturday. Every time Clayton has reached double-digits in scoring this season, it has always resulted in a double-double.
This time, Webber has changed a bit since the team's meeting in November. WIU went from starting out as one of the 3-Pt. Defenses to now near the bottom of the conference, giving up more than 34% from long range. Another Achilles' heel for the Warriors is the team's struggle at the free throw line, shooting under 59% (TSC's worst conversion percentage). While this can play to TU's advantage, Webber has made up for its missed chances in steals and turnovers; WIU opponents average the second most turnovers per game in The Sun Conference (23.3). Ball control will be paramount for the Lady Night Hawks if the team has any intention on winning, as the Hunter Green & White lead the conference in average Turnovers (21.2).
Senior Guard Leandra Franklin continues to be a driving force, grabbing at least two steals a game while averaging six turnovers a game since the turn of the year. Paris Copeland averages just under 16 points a game.
Tipoff at TU Gymnasium is scheduled for 2 p.m. While fan attendance is not permitted, spectators can watch the action by clicking on the links below:
