Box Score 2 AVE MARIA, Fla. – The Thomas University baseball team collected 18 hits in the Night Hawks' 9-4 game-two win Friday afternoon. TU lost the first game, 7-4.
Thomas and Ave Maria wrap up the three-game series tomorrow at noon in Ave Maria, Fla.
Game One
Thomas went ahead early, scoring one run in the first and adding another in the third inning, but Ave Maria battled back with one in the fifth and two in the seventh. TU took the lead again in the top of the ninth with two runs, but AMU hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth to earn the 7-4 win.
Shortstop
Chase Hinson went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI, a stolen base and two runs scored and catcher
Jake Webb had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored once. First baseman
Jake Bryan connected on a two-RBI double in the ninth.
Pitcher
Jorge Meran struck out six in 8.0 innings, but allowed seven runs from six hits and four walks to take the loss.
Game Two
TU knocked 18 hits and despite three fielding errors, defeated Ave Maria, 9-4, in the second game. After two scoreless innings, AMU plated three in the third, but Thomas scored one in the fourth and four in the fifth to take the lead. AMU added one in the sixth, but Thomas put up four more in the eighth to take the win.
Hinson (3-for-4), Bryan (3-for-5) and infielder
Tyler Keaton (3-for-5) each tagged three hits for TU and right fielder Maury Gonzalez, catcher Jacob Smith and center fielder
Keefer Beaty each had a pair of hits. Schmidt collected three RBI, including a sac to left in the fourth and a two-run homer in the eighth.
Chance Carter went 8.0 innings for the Night Hawks, striking out five and allowing just four runs – two earned – from six hits and two walks.
Clayton Faircloth came in for 1.0 inning of relief, striking out one.
