POOLER, Ga. – Thomas University's Genevieve Courtney fired a 75 to place third after the first round of the Sun Conference Championship held at the Savannah Quarters Country Club Sunday morning. 

Courtney trails the co-leaders from SCAD–Savannah and Keiser University by just two strokes. The junior from Bethel, Conn., carded the most birdies (four) of anyone in the field, and averaged an even 5.0 on par five holes for the day. 

As a team, the Night Hawks are in fifth after carding a first round 359. SCAD–Savannah leads the event with a 307. 

Laura Mican is tied for 25th after shooting a 90 on the opening day, while Laura Alexander (tied for 29th) and Angela Rivera (32nd) shot 96 and 98, respectively. 

The Night Hawks return to the course Monday morning for round two, then wrap up the Championship Tuesday morning.
