Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COCHRAN, Ga. - Thomas dropped the first two contests of a three-game series at No. 15 Middle Georgia State on Saturday at Stuckey Field, losing game one, 3-0, and game two, 7-4. The Night Hawks face the defending Southern States Athletic Conference champion again Monday at 4 p.m. ET.

"We came out aggressive in game one but hit into too many double plays which halted our momentum," Randy Adams, making his debut as head coach of the Green and White, said. "Our guys fought hard with a late rally in game two, but it was just too little, too late."

In game one, Thomas (0-2) put at least one runner aboard in each of the first three innings after totaling four hits but was unable to muster a run.

Middle Georgia State (2-0) broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Trenton Nash led off with a walk and later scored on a Zachary Cornell RBI groundout. In the next at-bat, Blake Jackson (1) took the first pitch he saw over the left field fence.

The Knights added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jacob Durant reached on an error and later scored with two outs on a Jackson RBI double to right.

Jackson finished 2-of-3 with two RBIs.

Taylor Westbrook and Landon Boyette were each 2-of-3 at the plate for the Night Hawks. Dominic Berlin and Levi Hollingsworth each had one hit. Berlin, Chase Hinson and Justin Young each drew a walk.

Jared Crews (1-0) went the distance on the mound in the win, surrendering six hits with five strikeouts against three walks.

Daniel Williams (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing three runs, two earned, on four hits with five strikeouts and two walk in 4.2 innings.

The Knights scored one run in each of the first two innings in game two before putting up a five-spot in the third, which included a Nash(1) two-run dinger to left.

The Night Hawks did all their damage with two outs in the top of the seventh, starting with a Boyette double to right-center. After Logan Place and Keefer Beaty drew walks to load the bases, Westbrook singled to center, plating Boyette and Place to cut the deficit to 7-2. Hinson then reached on a walk, which was followed with a Yovanny Peguero two-run single to center, scoring Beaty and Westbrook, However, a groundout to Devan Harriman ended the rally.

Haydn Nechanicky was 3-of-3 with an RBI and two runs scored for Middle Georgia State. Durant also scored twice. Nash drove in two.

Eight Knights had at least one of the team's 11 hits.

Berlin finished 2-of-3 at the plate. Westbrook and Peguero each had one hit and two RBIs. Boyette and Place recorded one hit apiece.

Five different Night Hawks drew one walk.

Crandall Poore (1-0) picked up the win, pitching four innings, allowing three hits with four strikeouts and a walk. Harriman (1) recorded the save with 0.1 innings of hitless relief.

Chris Rzewnicki (0-1) dropped the decision on the mound, giving up six earned runs on five hits with two walks in 2.2 innings. Patrick Haley allowed one hit and struck out two in an inning of relief.
