Fallin's Barbeque Postgame Report - Warner
THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Thomas dominated Warner (Fla.) in the final 10 minutes of play Saturday afternoon, leading to a 60-55 Sun Conference (TSC) win inside TU Gymnasium. The Night Hawks end a three-game skid in the series.
Thomas (4-3, 2-3 TSC) erased a 10-point deficit entering the fourth quarter by outscoring the Royals 20-5 in the final period. Warner (4-7, 1-4 TSC) was limited to just 2-of-13 from the floor in the frame and 0-of-5 from 3, while the Night Hawks shot 7-of-16 from the field and 4-of-7 from deep.
Jewel Montisano and
Dymon Brown each connected on two treys. A Montisano 3 with 3:37 to play put her team on top for good.
"We definitely pushed the ball a lot more," Montisano, who came off the bench and finished with nine points all from behind the arc, said. "We were a lot more aggressive on offense and on defense.
"(I fed) off the energy of everyone on the team...everyone on the bench and doing what coach (Myron) Brown said...willing the ball in the basket."
Arianna Anderson recorded her second-straight and sixth-career double-double in the win, tying a career-high with 17 points and 11 rebounds. She was 8-of-13 from the field. D. Brown finished with 13 points, including four made 3-pointers.
De'Audra Copeland chipped in 12 points and seven boards.
I'munique Green and Sarah Poehlman each finished with 13 points in the loss. Green also had six assists. Poehlman was 6-of-11 shooting off the bench. Kevona Gay had 12 points in a reserve role.
The Night Hawks shot 39.3 percent (24-of-61) overall but 46.9 percent (13-of-28) after intermission, which the Royals led 33-24. Thomas outrebounded Warner 45-41, leading to 14 second chance points. The Night Hawks outscored the visitors in the paint, 26-18.
Warner finished 34.4 percent (21-of-61) from the floor and just 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from beyond the arc.
Thomas opened up an eight-point lead midway through the first quarter following a D. Brown 3 but tallied only one basket in the next 7:23 that saw the Royals assume a 22-15 edge.
The Night Hawks used a 10-0 run over the course of 2:25 to tie the affair at 40 following a
Samantha Gilbert trey, but Warner countered with its own 10-0 spurt to close the third quarter up 50-40.
Thomas travels to Valdosta State, a NCAA Division II member, on Monday, Dec. 11, for its final exhibition this season. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. ET.
