WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan defeated Thomas, 74-63, on Tuesday evening in the Keiser (Fla.) Classic played at Massimino Court. The Night Hawks suffered their first non-conference loss in four such games.
"We played even with them for the final three quarters, but the first really did us in," Green and White coach
Myron Brown said. "We can't get off to slow starts, especially against an opponent the caliber of which we played tonight."
Anna Imhoff scored 21 points to lead five Indiana Wesleyan (11-3) players in double figures to go along with eight boards. Carly Lange added 15. Dayton Groninger tallied 12, while Brittany Washington and Katie Key each had 10.
Kriza Allen finished with 14 points, six rebounds and six assists for Thomas (5-5).
De'Audra Copeland contributed 12 points on a 6-of-9 effort from within the arc and a pair of steals off the bench.
Jewel Montisano had 11 points on 4-of-7 shooting, including 3-of-6 from deep.
Arianna Anderson hauled in six rebounds.Â
The Wildcats were 8-of-22 from 3-point range and 26-of-31 from the charity stripe.
The Night Hawks shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the field overall and 10-of-13 from the free throw line in the second half. The Green and White did much of its damage inside, outscoring the Wildcats in the paint, 34-20. Thomas turned 18 Indiana Wesleyan turnovers into 20 points and got 28 points from its reserves.
Indiana Wesleyan used a strong first quarter to cruise to the win, holding a 20-9 lead after 10 minutes. Thomas closed within six points twice in the second quarter and once in the fourth at the five-minute mark after an
Alisha Clayton layup, but the Wildcats made 10-of-12 free throws down the stretch to secure their 10th victory in the last 11 games.
The Night Hawks conclude the tournament Wednesday against No. 22 Lawrence Tech (Mich.) at 7 p.m. ET.
