THOMASVILLE, Ga. - Three Night Hawks scored in double figures Saturday afternoon, including a career-high 27 points byÂ
Kriza Allen, in a 74-60 win over Life (Ga.) inside TU Gymnasium. The Night Hawks improve to 3-0 this season at home in non-conference play.
Allen, who came off the bench for the first time in 24 games, finished one rebound shy of a double-double. She shot 8-of-16 from the floor and was 11-of-14 from the free throw line.
"Our goal was to play inside-out, and when you play inside-out, most teams score well," Allen said.
Dymon Brown ended with 20 points, including five made 3-pointers, in the victory.
Jewel Montisano contributed 13 points, including three made treys. Brown and Montisano were each one point shy of their career high. Brown recorded five steals, while Allen had four.Â
"Our main key is to play smart and play together and play with high energy," Brown said.
Arianna Anderson hauled in 11 rebounds in the win, while
Daycia Bandy tied a career-high with 10. Bandy dished out five assists, while Brown and Allen each had four.Â
Thomas (5-4) totaled 18 assists on 23 made baskets and was 8-of-21 from beyond the arc and 20-of-32 from the charity stripe. The Night Hawks bench outscored the visitors 29-16. The Green and White held an edge in fastbreak points, 19-10.
Lucy Stone and Tierra Lindsey each scored 16 points in the loss for the NAIA Division I member. Lindsey and Kennesha Nichols each grabbed nine rebounds.Â
Life (6-5) was limited to just 32.9 percent (24-of-73) from the floor, 23.5 percent (4-of-17) from deep and 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from the stripe.Â
Thomas forced 25 turnovers, while Life generated 24.
Brown scored all 11 of her team's points in the first 10 minutes, going 4-of-7 from the field and 3-of-4 from behind the arc, as the Night Hawks led by one at the end of the quarter.
Thomas assumed command in the second period, outscoring the Running Eagles 26-13 in the frame to lead 37-23 at intermission. An Allen offensive rebound and putback at the 2:05 mark gave her squad its first double-digit advantage of the afternoon.
The lead swelled to 17 1:16 into the third quarter after a Montisano trey, and the Night Hawks took a 52-39 advantage into the fourth.
A 7-0 Life run in a 1:03 span brought the Running Eagles within five with 5:14 to play, but Thomas countered with an 11-4 spurt, ending with consecutive buckets by Montisano from deep, to push its advantage back to 12 at the 3:06 mark.Â
The Night Hawks take part in the Keiser (Fla.) Classic Dec. 19-20. Thomas faces No. 15 Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday and No. 22 Lawrence Tech (Mich.) on Wednesday. Both tip times are set for 7 p.m. ET.
