Webber International upsets Thomas

Box Score

LAKE WALES, Fla. - Thomas' Arianna Anderson posted her third-straight double-double with a career-high 20 points and 11 rebounds, but Webber International (Fla.) upset the Night Hawks, 65-59, on Wednesday evening in Sun Conference (TSC) action inside Turner Athletic Center on the campus of Warner (Fla.). The Warriors end a three-game losing streak to the Green and White.

"We fought hard in the second quarter to tie the game but really struggled in the third quarter," Night Hawks coach Myron Brown said. "The ladies fought hard in the final 10 minutes to make the contest competitive, but we can't turn the ball over like we did tonight or struggle from the free throw line and expect to win games."

The double-double was the seventh of Anderson's career. She finished 8-of-14 from the floor to go along with three steals. De'Audra Copeland chipped in 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Dymon Brown added 13 points, five boards and five steals. Daycia Bandy hauled in nine rebounds and dished out five assists. Kriza Allen had four steals.

Emmarrie Carmen finished with 14 points on 5-of-10 shooting for Webber International (3-8, 1-4 TSC). RayGene Garner had 13 points off the bench. Ashley Perry scored 12, while Breyonna Reed had 11.

Webber International shot 44.6 percent (25-of-56) from the field overall but connected on 53.9 percent (14-of-26) in the final 20 minutes. The Warriors missed 13 free throws (13-of-26).

Thomas (4-4, 2-4 TSC) committed 34 turnovers, while the Warriors had 31.

Down 21-11 less than two minutes into the second quarter, the Night Hawks responded by outscoring Webber International 16-6 the rest of the half to send both teams into the locker room tied at 27 following a D. Brown offensive rebound and putback as time expired.

Leading 31-29 in the third quarter, Webber International used an 11-0 spurt in a span of 1:52 to open up the affair, with seven coming from Carmen. The Warriors outscored Thomas 26-11 in the period to lead 53-38 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Night Hawks made a late push in the final frame. Trailing by 21 points, an 11-0 run, which ended with an Anderson bucket in the paint, brought Thomas within 61-51 at the 2:27 mark. A Copeland layup with 35 seconds to go trimmed the margin to single digits, and a D. Brown trey with five second on the clock cut the difference to six, but the Green and White would get no closer.

Wednesday's game was moved to Warner due to ongoing renovations to Webber International's Sabbagh Athletic Center.

The Night Hawks host Life (Ga.), a NAIA Division I school, on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.
