ABOUT THOMAS

The Night Hawks are coming off a 70-35 exhibition loss at Valdosta State (Ga.), a NCAA Division II member, on Monday.

The Night Hawks struck first in the opening minute with a layup by Daycia Bandy, but the Lady Blazers connected on their first four shots, including three from deep, and led 17-10 at the end of the first quarter.

Valdosta State opened up the game in the second and third quarters, outscoring Thomas a combined 37-14. Thomas' Samantha Gilbert tallied seven of her team-high 12 points in the first 20 minutes, but the Lady Blazers led 37-19 at halftime on the strength of 46.7 percent (14-of-30) shooting, including 5-of-11 from deep, in the period. 

Bandy finished with eight points on a 4-of-6 effort from the field. Alexis Moody had six points. Arianna Anderson pulled down five rebounds, while Moody grabbed four.

ABOUT WEBBER INTERNATIONAL

The Warriors are coming off an 87-77 loss at Coastal Georgia on Dec. 9 in league play.

The Warriors led by 12 twice in the first half and battled back from down nine to make it a one-point game in the third quarter before ultimately losing.

Ashley Perry and Montrese Weller led the way for the Warriors, finishing with 23 and 19 points, respectively. Perry finished 11-of-14 from the free throw line while also shooting 50 percent from the field (6-of-12), while Weller added a mark of 5-for-9 from 3-point range and was 4-for-4 on free throws. Additionally, Perry added six rebounds and five steals.

The Warriors first half featured two 13-1 runs, one to start the game and another to take a 26-11 lead three minutes into the second quarter. However, the Mariners would finish the opening 20 minutes on an 11-3 run to tie it up at the break at 34.

Webber International's run to start the game featured baskets from six different Warriors on its first six scores by Tiffany Zito, Breyonna Reed, Perry, RayGene Garner, Emmarrie Carmen and Weller. The Warriors also combined for six steals in the first quarter, three by Perry, forced nine Mariner turnovers, and held Coastal Georgia to only 27 percent shooting from the field (0-for-6 on 3s) while shooting nearly 45 percent themselves.

In the third quarter, Webber International fell behind 43-34 after a 9-0 start to the half by the Mariners but battled back with an 8-0 run to get within one at 43-42 a little less than five minutes into the half.

The two teams then traded points as a 3 by Reed made it 48-47 with 4:26 left in the third quarter, but Coastal Georgia closed out the period on a 10-1 run and went ahead by 19 at 71-52 four minutes into the final quarter.

Two free throws by Perry got the score back within single digits at 74-65 with 2:15 left, and then a trey by Weller made it 82-75 with 40 seconds left.

Behind Perry and Weller, Carmen added 10 points on 50 percent shooting, and Zito added eight and Reed had six. Reed and Zito both matched Perry with six rebounds, while Carmen added five boards.

The Warriors have lost four games in a row, three by double digits.

Webber International ranks 16th in NAIA Division II in steals per game (12.4), 20th in offensive rebounds per game (15.3) and 26th in rebounds per game (42.1).

Perry is 16th nationally in steals per game (3.0).

LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE WARRIORS

Thomas defeated Webber International, 79-70, in overtime on Jan. 12, 2017.

De'Audra Copeland recorded a double-double for the Night Hawks with 16 points and 13 rebounds, while Anderson led the team with 14 rebounds. Dymon Brown, J'Nyiah Daniels and Micah Garvin each provided 14 points.

The Night Hawks opened the game with a 14-2 lead and led 16-9 after the first quarter.

Victoria Baggett tied the game at 21 for Webber International with a made 3-pointer in the second quarter. Garvin converted two free throws that gave her squad a 25-23 lead at halftime.

The Warriors opened the second half with two-straight buckets and took a 27-25 lead, their first of the game. The third quarter saw four ties and seven lead changes. Webber International held a 46-43 lead into the fourth quarter.

Kriza Allen tied the game at 48 with two free throws midway through the fourth quarter. The Warriors held a 55-50 lead with less than four minutes left in regulation. The Night Hawks went on a 7-0 run and took a 57-55 lead. Daniels converted two free throws with 20 seconds remaining and put her team up 59-56. Baggett banked in a 3-pointer and tied the game at 59 to send it into overtime.

The Warriors jumped out to a 63-59 lead early in overtime, but Bandy tied the game at 63 with an and-one. The Night Hawks went on an 11-1 run and took a 74-66 lead.

  • Brown averaged 13.5 points in two wins last season against Webber International.
  • Wednesday's game has been moved to Turner Athletic Center at Warner (Fla.) due to ongoing renovations to Webber International's Sabbagh Athletic Center.
