THOMASVILLE, Ga. - For the second time this season, Thomas faces Life (Ga.), ranked No. 9 in the 2017–18 NAIA Division I Men's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Top 25, this time on the road Sunday at 3 p.m. ET.

ABOUT THOMAS

The Night Hawks are coming off a 106-60 exhibition loss at Barry (Fla.), ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II, on Tuesday.

Each team shot 50 percent in the first half, but the Night Hawks limited the Buccaneers, playing the third game of their regular season, to just 4-of-12 from deep and two made free throws in the period while shooting perfect (12-of-12) from the line.

Thomas' Johnnel Ginnie tallied 13 of his team-high 14 points in the first 20 minutes. JaVoris Cooks had nine of his 13 points in the period as well.

Ginnie scored seven of his team's first 11 points, as a Ginnie trey opened up an 11-5 advantage for the Green and White less than four minutes into the game. 

Barry countered with a 9-0 run, with the last five points coming from Marko Tomic, to take a 14-11 lead at the 14:03 mark. A Ginne dunk brought the Night Hawks within 14-13 less than a minute later, but Barry responded with a 10-0 spurt to make the score 24-13 midway through the frame. Down 33-20, Thomas closed within two points, 38-36, at the 1:54 mark following a Ginnie jumper and trailed by just just three, 42-39, at the break after an Eric Johnson 3 with 1:22 on the clock. 

However, the Buccaneers, already leading 51-48 with 16:35 left in the game, put together a 27-0 run over the course of 6:40 to seize control. Barry outscored Thomas 64-21 in the second half and shot 63 percent from the field. 

Willie Holloway and Ivan Tomic each had eight points for Thomas, while Johnson scored seven. Cooks, Holloway and Tomic each pulled down five boards. 

Thomas finished 19-of-23 from the line. Cooks finished a perfect 7-of-7, while Ginnie was 5-of-6.

THE FACTS OF LIFE

The Running' Eagles are coming off a 103-67 win at home over Morris (S.C.) on Saturday.

Five Running Eagles scored double-digits in the win. David Scott paced the squad with a new career-high of 19 points as well as nine rebounds, two steals and an assist. Michael Miller posted 16 points with three assists, two rebounds and a steal. Ivan Benkovic logged 14 points, four rebounds, and two steals. Undra Mitchem and Connor Gamble contributed 11 points apiece.
 
Life opened on a 14-2 run and never looked back. Their largest lead of the first half came at 36-17 with 7:12 left in the period. The Running Eagles took a 50-37 lead into the intermission.
 
In the second half, Life pushed the lead out to 20 at 77-54 with 7:32 left in the game. The advantage went over 30 points at 90-59 with 3:51 left. 

Life leads NAIA Division I in steals (116) and ranks fourth in 3-point field goal percentage defense (0.235), seventh in 3-pointers made (88) and 11th in rebound offense (355).

Zach Landis is fourth in steals (21) and rebounds (85).

LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE RUNNING EAGLES

Thomas defeated Life, 83-74, on Nov. 1 inside TU Gymnasium.

Johnnel Ginnie pumped in a game-high 24 points in the win. 

Ginnie led three Thomas players in double figures on 8-of-10 shooting. Javoris Cooks ended with 16 points and five rebounds. D.J. Roulhac added 12 points.

Keion Peoples contributed eight points and a game-high seven assists in the victory. Willie Holloway had two of the team's three rejections.

Deven Dorsett recorded 22 points and seven rebounds for Life. Mitchem had 17 points and nine rebounds. Jay Johnson added 11 points.

Crews' squad shot better than 60 percent in each half and finished 62 percent (31-of-50) from the floor overall and drained nine treys.

The Running Eagles shot 44.4 percent (24-of-54) from the field but just 26.1 percent (6-of-23) from 3-point range. 

Thomas outscored the visitors in the paint 36-26. 

The Night Hawks never trailed in the contest and led by as many as 19 at the 14:46 mark of the second half following an Ivan Tomic layup. Life closed within five points, 79-74, with 1:12 to go after a Benkovic layup, but Crews' bunch held the Running Eagles scoreless down the stretch to seal the triumph.

  • Thomas ranks 36th in NAIA Division II in 3-pointers made per game (9.3) and offensive rebounds per game (12.0) and 40th in 3-point field goal percentage (0.374).
  • Cooks ranks fourth in NAIA Division II in 3-point field goals made per game (3.9) and 44th in free throw percentage (0.857). Holloway is 30th in offensive rebounds per game (3.0).
  • Thomas is 3-0 this season when scoring 83 points or more.
  • The Night Hawks are 3-1 when Ginnie scores 17 or more points.
  • In the Oct. 27 season-opener at Point (Ga.), Cooks moved past former teammate Adanoi Rogers at the 16:47 mark of the first half on a trey to become the school's all-time leading scorer.
  • Also on Oct. 27, Cooks became the program's first member of the 1,000-point club following two made free throws with 1:13 left in the second half. He now has 1,101 career points.
  • Cooks' 15 3-point attempts on Nov. 11 against Talladega are the most by any TSC player in a game this season.
  • Thomas faces three ranked opponents - No. 14 Florida Memorial, No. 20 Saint Thomas (Fla.) and No. 25 Warner (Fla.) - and two that are receiving votes - Keiser and Southeastern (Fla.) - in the 2017-18 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches' Preseason Top 25. The Night Hawks lost at Keiser on Thursday.
  • Thomas' Demetrius Rivers is redshirting this season and will have four seasons of eligibility remaining.
